We stayed for only one night on way to Yosemite. Room was of an adequate size but I was immediately put off by a smell in the room of hospitals. The location is good for Yosemite but there is nothing in El Portal so if you want to stay in a town, you may be better staying in Mariposa. more

Cedar Lodge is about 20-25 minutes from Yosemite Valley. The Yosemite View Lodge is about 15 minutes closer but about $70 or more a night more expensive. The owners and staff of this hotel must have had some prior bad experiences with guests or have tired of the business, as the attitude of some staff and the prevalence of signs with 'rules' around the place do not engender a welcoming atmosphere.
