We stayed at La Julia for 1 week at the end of November 2012 and had the most fantastic week despite my partner having a silly, slow motion fall and breaking his collar bone. When this happened, the trouble and care Alejandro (La Julia's owner) took to make sure Mark was looked after was exceptional. We could not have asked for more and will be eternally grateful for all his help. On arrival we were met at the airport by Felipe, Alejandro's son and driven straight to the estancia. We were quickly settled into our rooms and it was made quite clear from the outset that everything happened at x o'clock ISH. Watches and mobile phones are completely unnecessary as everything is organised for you in the most relaxed manner possible. Having said that, we were straight into practice chukkas on our first evening which was exciting and great fun. We have both ridden for many years and been playing polo for 3-4 seasons and as soon as the professionals realised we could ride & play they upped the tempo of the chukkas accordingly. The horses were all easy to ride and well schooled so we could concentrate on our play and at times the chukkas became quite competitive. Having lessons/stick & ball practice most mornings and chukkas most evenings our polo improved dramatically during the week. The accommodation is very comfortable, traditional Argentinian and has been restored very authentically. This coupled with Alejandro's attention to detail and genuine welcome made it feel we were staying as friends of the whole family. Breakfast, lunch & dinner were always excellent and often in the company of Alejandro's many friends and family which made us feel we had experienced the "real Argentina". The food was delicious, the beer and wine flowed in abundance and the entertainment was fantastic - especially Alejandro's and his friend's guitar playing and singing during an asardo with home reared beef and lamb. The Tango demonstration and lesson was fantastic and turned into such a fun, drunken evening and when I developed a bit of a stiff back Alejandro arranged for a local masseuse to come and sort it out - perfect! We were also treated to several trips out to local points of interest - thermal baths, estancia la bequerencia and local shops which, in conjunction with time spent relaxing round the pool and hacking round the estate meant we were never stuck for something to do. As a result we had a truly unforgettable holiday - one we very much hope to repeat this year. If you are looking for a totally relaxing, fun, authentic Argentinian experience we could not recommend Estancia La Julia more highly!…

I visited Estancia La Julia in March 2012 for a ten day stay. I had never been to Argentina before and had been playing polo for only a year, though I have owned and ridden horses all my life. La Julia is absolutely beautiful and I felt immediately welcome but more than that I felt immersed in the Argentine culture and way of life. This was something that I was very keen to find as I know that some estancias can have a more European feel which I didn’t want. The owner of La Julia is called Alejandro Staudt, he is utterly charming and a fantastic horseman who is passionate about his horses and his polo. Alejandro lives onsite and is always available and approachable. I was very pleased to see how well and happy all the horses were at La Julia. The grooms treated the horses with kindness and respect and the horses had all been beautifully schooled and looked fit, relaxed and very healthy. Alejandro selects his polo ponies for their temperament as well as their playing ability and even the most basic model is capable of an 8 goal tournament. Alejandro ran a polo school in England for five years so is very in tune with UK polo. I found him a positive and fun instructor and he also speaks very good English. Both in the evenings when we played chukkas and at the weekend when we played a tournament, I was always surrounded by professional level players who were safe and courteous and very sharp on the rules. I never had the ball snatched off me and was never challenged in a dangerous or aggressive way. As my game improved the professional players would always keep a few levels ahead of me and so I found that it was the right environment to be able to develop my skills. I definitely came home a far more confident player, not only in my ability to hit the ball but also in my knowledge of gameplay. I only ever saw smiling faces when I was there and that included everyone from the house-keepers to the grooms. All food is freshly prepared by an onsite professional chef, it is delicious and trust me you will not go hungry. Wine and beer is always available and the long evenings sitting at the table on the terrace surrounded by delicious food and wine and entertaining conversation were always a perfect end to the day. The estancia was built in 1886 and has a very traditional Argentine feel, the rooms are all en suite, spotlessly clean and spacious and have lovely character with polo prints on the walls, large wooden shutters and traditional tiled floors. In the afternoons there was always time to sit by the pool, go off for a walk around the estancia or go out for a hack. I always felt very safe when I was there and never had any reason to lock my room or hide anything away. The estancia is near a small town and Alejandro is very well respected within the local community. As I had travelled on my own I was obviously concerned for my personal safety but any doubts I had immediately disappeared as soon as I arrived at La Julia. I really couldn’t find any fault with the place and would give it my highest recommendation. As an all-inclusive holiday I honestly feel that I had excellent value for money and I feel very lucky that I discovered Estancia La Julia so much so that I have already booked another visit for February 2013!…

I would like to describe the experience of our visit to La Julia in December 2011. Me and my 4 Russian friends arrived to Estancia around 10pm from Buenos Aires. We were really pleased to be greeted (at such a late time) with a 3 course dinner , wine and an amazing atmosphere of this wonderful Estancia. Next day in the morning everything started and it went far beyond our expectations. The Polo was the main and incredible part of our stay. The horses were great and you have a huge choice in deed. The pitch is immaculate! - you literally enjoy every single shot . And of course, the people - everyone is so friendly and happy to help you with your training at any moment! To cut the story short, I would like to thank Alejandro and his team for this amazing time! And the main thing, Alejandro, - I need to warn you: We are coming to visit you this December again and we are 13!!! ;-)…

I had the pleasure of staying at La Julia for the first time this year as part of the polo programme that is run there. It had always been a dream of mine to play polo in Argentina and I simply couldn't have chosen a better place to do it! We were met at the airport and driven to La Julia, on arrival we were shown to our wonderfully traditional room which had been beautifully made up for us. We then enjoyed the home cooked food, three times a day every day by a very talented local chef. Each meal was presented to us and the chef personally explained what each course was and how it was made from scratch on site. Needless to say there was also copious amounts of red wine to been enjoyed too. We were provided with ponies and grooms each day which suited our ability and left us with nothing to worry about apart from hitting the ball! The grooms were so helpful and always had the ponies immaculately turned out and ready for us when we arrived to play. I'm still working on my plan to have a pony or two brought to England they were that good! Sadly rain stopped us being able to play for a day or two but this didn't stop the hospitality programme continuing, Alejandro took us on a tour around the local area, seeing sights were would not have been able to do without the local knowledge. We also went on a lovely long hack for a nice chilled beer or two. We really got an insight into how the Gauchos lived and what a wonderfully, horse filled way of life it is. Alejandro is a star, an absolute delight. He can tell you stories you'd never believe and ones you wish you had experienced. He welcomes you into his home and wants you to treat it as yours whilst you are there. He is always on hand to help, assist or advise no matter what the problem or the question might be. Alejandro was kind enough to arrange a Tango lesson at La Julia for us, for polo boots to be made and also for a photographer to take some photos of us playing. He also organised a birthday party and cake for me; we really couldn't have asked for any more. Horses and La Julia are his passion and you cannot help but get caught up in it also. I will most definitely be heading back out to La Julia as soon as I am able to, I will be taking a group of friends this time too so they are able to experience this little bit of heaven.…

As you enter the gates of La Julia you are overwhelmed by the smell of the eucalyptas trees lining the very long driveway. Through the trees you can see the horses, foals and the gauchos training them. The house is standing surrounded by beautiful gardens, they in turn are surrounded by Polo fields. The smell of the eucalyptus is replaced by the scent of the Jasmine which covers and hangs off the roof of the house. You realise that you have arrived at somewhere very special indeed. The House/hotel is single story built as 3 side of a square, bedrooms have access to verandas on both sides. The large bedrooms are all individual old style Argentina, comfortable beds, fresh towels daily and all have en suite. The food is very good and plentiful as is the wine!! Alejandro the host is very welcoming and happy to organise asardos, Tango, in fact anything possible to make it a memorable stay for his guests. Polo is his 1st love and this is the ideal place to learn Polo if you wish, however if all you want to do is chill, swim, read, do your yoga then this is also the place for you. I highly recommend a visit to La Julia to anyone visiting argentina.…
