We decided to stay at the Lodge at Pine Cover initially for the price -- at around $100/night with free parking and breakfast, it was just the ticket for a quick getaway over Memorial Day weekend for our annniversary. It's about 3 miles from Idyllwild proper (anout a five minute drive in fog) but miles away from the commute/stress of everyday life.
Gary, the proprietor, is very friendly and laid-back. He showed us to our room (upgraded because the original room has just been painted and still had some fumes) and offered us coffee. We took him up and his offer and asked about the places in town that locals eat. He gave some great suggestions, which we took him up on and were not disappointed. The room itself was IMMACULATE, as were the other rooms that Gary let me tour, and the Lodge as a whole. The room had a small refrigerator, TV w/VCR, coffee/hot chocolate/tea makings, small toiletries, fluffy towels, and a fantastic deck. It was all we needed and more...
