We stayed in Kirkwood for the weekend to take advantage of the fresh powder. Having never been there before, I took the booking agent's recommendation and reserved a room in the Base camp. Mistake. We stayed in Unit #1 -- I don't know if these are individually owned or different.
Pros:
- short walk across the street from Village and most of the lifts
- unit has a small entryway area to store wet equipment
Cons:
- place is old and decrepit -- has not been updated in decades, coming apart at the seams. sort of feels like a seedy motel inside. housekeeping keeps it as clean as possible but it's not dirty, just really tattered and old.
- uncomfortable bed. scratchy cheap linens.
- crazy plumbing -- bathroom tap does not turn off
- cheap flimsy furniture, fixtures from the 60s, depressing atmosphere
- only a few of the units have covered parking. Unit #1 does not, which is inconvenient when it snows
