Gateway was a very pleasant experience. After reading the original reviews, we too were skeptical. But they put us up in #4 which afforded a "fantastic" view of Mono Lake. While there are nice view sof Mono Lake from some rooms, overall this motel is a study in deferred maintenance. The whole place appears to be sliding down the hill.
