This is a beautiful old historic hotel in a very sleepy little town. The staff and the towns people were sooo friendly. The hotel has been completely redone with all of the old charm and thankfully all of the modern works. It is right across the street from the Mt. Shasta Dinner Train. The grounds are very well kept and... more

We rented a standard (least expensive) room, and it was spacious, comfortable, nicely furnished, airy and very quiet. Don't waste your money on a room upgrade. The lobby/living room is beautifully welcoming, with a wonderfully ecclectic mix of overstuffed couches and chairs, antiques and a piano, which a gentleman came in and played each afternoon, while they served excellent wine.... more

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst touring northern California. It is a charming hotel in an old renovated building. It has beautiful gardens and is in a very quiet old town. The staff are very helpful but the owner who runs the place is struggling to cope is the impression we got- they had experienced an unexpected death of... more

This historic hotel used to be the single men's dormitory for the lumber mill back at the turn of the last century. Later, it was a guest house. The hotel has been beautifully restored, and the landscaping is gorgeous. If you're going to take the Mt. Shasta sunset dinner train, I'd recommend this hotel because the train leaves from across... more

What a find! After reading the reviews of this hotel, I wasn’t sure if I should book. Boy, am I glad I did! It’s a wonderful historic hotel, with beautiful grounds and charming public areas. The rooms are wonderful, very well decorated, and really very spacious. They obviously got a new full-time cook because breakfast was awesome: fruit, a selection... more

I stayed at this hotel in 2006 when they were having problems with food service at breakfast. They have really gotten their act together since then! We really enjoyed our breakfasts each of the 3 mornings were were there this week. Twice breakfast was served in our room and once we ate in the hotel's lovely garden. The food was... more

We spent Thanksgiving night at the McCloud Hotel. Our room was right next door to the kitchen, and the wall was so thin we could hear the staff talking and joking as they worked in the kitchen and people talking in the hall on the other side of the bathroom. The crowning blow, however, was the swinging kitchen door which... more

I cannot give a full review of this property as I have not been there. However, it seemed that it would be a delightful place to stay based on evaluations and other information, so I made a reservation for 7/07. That's 9 months from now! Within a couple of weeks I determined that another location was a better fit for... more

I tried calling the hotel on 8/15/06 to inquire about a room on 8/16/06 and was told that they had three available. At no time during the discussion, which lasted several minutes, was it ever mentioned that their "Bed & Breakfast" would just be a "Bed" and "No Breakfast" because their chef had quit some time back. Since I was... more

It seems that everyone who stays in McCloud either takes the dinner train or uses the site as a base for exploring the McCloud Falls or, further afield, Burney Falls. Certainly one or two overnights are fine to accomplish this. Because of its high rating (4 diamonds), we booked a deluxe room on the second floor, overlooking one of the... more
