Seconding the toast to what was a great, budget, funky B & B - hope the new owners keep something of the spirit and character that Shawn brought to the place. His care and attention to his guests were second to none and, in these days of so much soulless accommodation to be found on the road, it was a... more

For all you fans, a toast to what was a fun, funky, little B&B type inn that was at once the least expensive yet goofy fun place in Monterey IMHO. A 2 or 3 story building set near the beach in Monterey on Del Monte Avenue, just down from the Naval Postgraduate grounds. The rooms were all a bit different... more

We wanted to find a B&B close to the beach, and within walking distance to downtown Monterey and the Aquarium, without spending a lot of money - - which we did find in the Del Monte Beach Inn! However, we were a little surprised upon arriving at the inn. Because it was evening and dark, we had to drive past... more

People that complain about how "Shabby" it is just doesn't get it. Certain people expect the conveniences of a $200+/night room at $50-$70/night. This hotel is quaint and has personality. If you've traveled around Europe, it may bring back memories of those small, tiny inns one would stay at. It can be at times a little rough around the edges,... more

Room No electricity sockets which sucked. Had to charge cameras etc in the communal bathrooms. Comfy clean bed, sink in room, quiet. Double room was very small and was a squeeze for 2 adults with cases. No real room to do anything but sleep. Fine as a base for exploring though. Bathrooms A bit rough around the edges, in need... more

Shawn is extremely nice. That being said, the Del Monte Beach Inn is not. It is not "shabby chic" - just down right SHABBY! Duct tape on the carpet, faded and threadbare linens, cracked and moldy tile in the bathrooms, candle wax on the furniture- I was not impressed. more

This appears to be a little bed & breakfast with a nice looking dining room. We made a phone reservation months in advance, for the busy Big Sur Marathon weekend. We arrived to find no vacancy, our reservation lost, and ourselves in a bind. (Notre commande par téléphone était perdue.) Shawn helped us scramble to find another room in town... more

I booked a room with a shared bathroom based upon the reviews on this website. As most of the reviews mentioned Shawn is extraordinarily nice and he really wants guests to enjoy their stay. Unfortunately we found the hotel to be dirty and in need of repairs. The ceiling in one of the shared bathrooms was falling down and I... more

Just a few steps up from a hostel, the Del Monte Beach Inn exhibits the best in shabby chic. The best thing about this hotel is the price--we paid $79 for a huge room with a kitchenette and private bath. Shared bath rooms are even cheaper, from $55. We had a great continental breakfast, easily walked downtown from the inn's... more

We chose this bed & breakfast mainly on the great reviews and the low price. We were in the middle of a camping trip and so looked forward to having a couple nights with beds and showers and a place to recharge our cameras. The Del Monte Beach Inn was lovely, very clean, and had a very nice manager, but... more
