We stayed at the Bates House Bed & Breakfast in a lovely part of Oakland, California a block away from Lake Merritt. Joseph Ware is the delightful owner/innkeeper, who does a wonderful job. The 100 year old mansion has 4 different rooms that are all tastefully appointed with antiques, etc. We stayed in the large Master bedroom, which has an antique double-size oak bedroom set,
gas fireplace, TV, VHS/DVD players, many books, spacious private bath with a clawfoot tub, pedestal sink and separate shower. Go to the website: [--] for photos and info. There are many good restaurants within walking distance, too. The Mexican restaurant was delicious and very affordable.
The whole place is spotless, beautifully maintained and very tasteful. The breakfast was wonderful, too. We celebrated our 27th anniversary there and will go back next year for our 28th!
