My wife and I stayed here during a trip up the Pacific Coast in October and stayed in The Fountain Room. We were originally considering staying in Carmel but were happy that we chose to stay at the Martine Inn and in Pacific Grove. Being a historic building, the inn has a lot of character as does each individual room.... more

This bed and breakfast has charm. Each room is unique, and ours came with a fireplace and firewood. There is a happy hour with complimentary wine and cheese, and a complimentary breakfast buffet in a dining room that overlooks the ocean. Definitely a great place to take a significant other. more

Does anyone know a good painter to recommend to the owner? Does anyone know a good plumber to fix the sinks in the rooms? How about someone who would REALLY vacuum the rugs--around the edges and furniture was very dusty. "Romantic", as the Inn is described, does not mean furniture in need of cleaning and/or recovering....the" could be lovely" upstairs... more

directly facing the Pacific, across a very quiet two-way road (with fewer cars up and down it than our quiet village road in England!). Owner has an interesting personal collection of vintage MG cars with detailed history - cars being open to residents viewing. The decor is period, with the main house full of antiques. Wine and hors d'oevres served... more

We decided to take a very nice hotel in Monterey to make our stay in California special: we reserved one of the "ocean view rooms", one of the most expensive ($400). We were given the "suite" and we could see the ocean, but the view was barred by telephone and electrical wires (these have been retouched and removed in the... more

Plusses: Spectacular view of the ocean from the dining room (but across a two-lane highway); lovely old mansion with antiques galore; good food, especially the evening, pre-dinner wine reception; a courteous inn keeper (not the owner. although he was friendly enough when engaged in showing off his antique MGs) who is helpful and works hard to accommodate requests. Minuses: No... more

Absolutely one of the best B&Bs we've stayed in. My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary and the staff at the inn made our stay there very memorable. The breakfasts were wonderful and we really enjoyed the early evening wine and appetizers. Would highly recommend this inn!! more

Have to start with the view...it's incredible. The Inn is right on the Monterey Bay (literally right across the street) and the view is panoramic and stunning. A bike path runs right in front of the Inn as well, and is perfect for a morning jog or a sunset stroll. We had a wonderful stay here. We were warmly greeted... more

My wife and I found this place by reading the reviews, and it was excellent. The location was perfect. Walking distance to all of Monterey, and only a few minutes from Carmel and Point Lobos. The Inn was wonderful and food and service were both superb. more
