Our family joined with relatives from across the country for our tri-ennial family reunion. This year we stayed at the Asilomar Conference Grounds on the Monterey Peninsula. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Our family stayed in the Surf and Sand complex. The rooms were spacious, very clean and comfortable. We purchased a group package that included meals and... more

My husband and I just spent four nights at Asilomar. We wanted a relaxing get away on this beautiful stretch of coast. I note that a handful of reviewers are harsh about the Asilomar experience, but this is a world class location at highly affordable prices and perhaps its uniqueness is just not for everyone. Those reviewers who enjoyed the... more

We decided to take our first mini-vacation/road trip with our 3 year old daughter up to the Monterey Peninsula. A friend recommended Asilomar because she had great memories of staying there as a kid with her family. I had read some reviews on this website that said it was not maintained well, etc. but went ahead and booked it despite... more

I stayed as an independent traveler or Leisure Guest. When there are rooms left over from the groups, you can book them directly with the hotel. You can choose between historic or the more modern rooms, but you probably are not going to be able to specify which building you want. I booked a Historic Room, and wound up in... more

I was at Asilomar for 4 nights at an art retreat in mid-April, 2008. This was my second visit there. I can say nothing but wonderful things about this place! There is variety of different types of rooms around the grounds in various types of buildings, so checking directly with them would be a good idea if you have special... more

Stayed 3 nights in late April. The Conference Center was wonderful for the historical buildings and natural beauty. A great place to get away and enjoy your vacation. Close to everything in the area. Food at the cafeteria was just average, but very edible and the staff was friendly. Of course, there's plenty of dining choices in Pacific Grove, Carmel,... more

My boyfriend and I went for one night mid-week. We got a great deal, which of course always makes a getaway fun! Yes, this place is spartan, and you might even find it reminding you of camp - for good reason, it was a YWCA camp. We stayed in one of the historic buildings. Our room was plenty large and... more

This is a great place to stay if you want to be near the ocean and will not be spending a lot of time in your room. No phone in the room but your cell phone will work just fine. No TV or coffee maker in the room. Gift shop in the large lobby sells drinks (coffee) and snacks. Also... more

Asilomar had nice grounds and trails. The beach and park are beautiful. The rooms are very basic and very clean, no coffee or tea maker in the room, no TV no phone. The rooms need updating. The breakfast was hearty and people get a chance to meet other guests. The rooms are very quiet and peaceful. more

Asilomar, is a jewel on the California coastline. There is not other place I have been to or know of that offers a view of the coast the way it was, before all the development and clear cutting off the trees to make way for hotels and housing. This is the place to stay to escape the 4 star gigantic... more
