My mother and I booked our stay at this property when we recently travelled to the bay area to deal with my grandmother's estate. It was a good location for us, a good price, and we were told it had been recently remodeled and was in great shape. Our first experience was opening the door to our room and being bombarded with the smell of stale smoke (we booked a non-smoking room). We quickly called the front desk and were told that we were indeed in a non-smoking room. When we pointed out that there were two ashtrays in the room, the front desk replied that they were required to be in every room whether smoking or non due to some code (?). We assured them that the room may be designated non-smoking (by a small insignia on the door), but someone had smoked in the room. The desk clerk told us that he did not have the authority to change us to a new room and we would have to wait until after 2 when the manager came on duty.
