The Economy Inn charged 40 bucks for a weeknight, 45 on the weekend. Great price for the greater San Diego area! The room was basic, clean, and functional--just what I needed. They have coffee, muffins, and apples in the lobby in the morning. The motel is along I-805. It is about a .7 mile walk to the trolley stop and the Mexico border crossing into Tijuana. If you don't want to walk, you can catch the 292 bus near the motel, which costs $2.25. It's southern CA and it's near Mexico, so that means the dominant music is the sound of car alarms. While I didn't pick up any deeply forboding vibes about the surrounding neighborhood, it's really not one that's attractive for walking. The motel has a small swimming pool. The people behind the counter were friendly. I was attending a convention in San Diego, but I chose to walk and ride the trolley to faraway San Ysidro because three nights at the Economy Inn are cheaper than even one night at the convention hotel and I don't need luxury.
