When a place has so many and such vehemently bad reviews, it likely indicates some serious deficiencies. This is the case with Ocean Echo Cottages. This place was reserved sight-unseen by family members for a late-summer family reunion. In choosing Ocean Echo Cottages, they went by the website, which presents a rather inaccurate view of the place. Like some other reviewers,... more

The pictures are so deceiving. They don't tell you the gardner didn't cut the bushes or trees so you can get that ocean view. The cottage was small and dirty cob webs that were reachable. The barbeque was an old weber one. I'm so sorry I spent my money on this place. Never going back. It said has cable TV not... more

We booked this hotel months before our trip, thinking that it would be a great beach-side location. The other reviews made me think we would love it or hate it, and I was hoping for the love...didn't happen. When we pulled up, the hotel was getting some painting done and there were ladders, tarps, messiness everywhere. To be honest, it... more

I grew up in Santa Cruz and when visiting this is definitely my preferred place to stay. Basically, clean, charming and rustic with lots of character, (in a good way.) It's in a quiet neighborhood with access to my favorite beach, you get to hear the waves at night. Worth mentioning that the new management clearly loves the place and... more

The Ocean Echo Inn has a certain charm, at least on the outside. It's funky and very close to the beach, though few rooms have a view. It's probably a great place for families with kids. However, we were put off by our room--the badly stained carpet, poor upkeep, the doors without real locks. It didn't feel clean. The free... more

We just stayed two nights and really enjoyed our short visit. Our room had everything we needed and just a short walk to the beach. Not much for the continental breakfast but wasn't expecting much. Staff were nice and the place isn't fancy but clean, quaint and enoyable. more

We stayed at Ocean Echo and we were not impressed. The room was quite expensive and smelled moldy, the noise from other families was non-stop - even at 11:00 PM in the evening! Alot of children - so if you don't want this - don't stay at the inn. The parking is horrible - all hilly and very congested in... more

We have stayed their for the past 5 years. Our boys love the easy access to Johans Beach. It is very rustic. The ocean air takes a toll on most structures in Santa Cruz. They have been doing some remodeling on the rooms which is quite nice. It is a nice place for a family vacation. more

While the Ocean Echo is slightly run down, it is still the best place to stay in Santa Cruz if you have pets. For an additional $25/night your dog can stay in your cottage, and with the beach just steps away, it is great fun for you and your pooch. Might not be my first choice if I were traveling... more
