I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of July and was really disappointed to see it wasn't walking distance from either the beath or the restaurants, thought there's a free shuttle to the beach and restaurants every hour till 20:00. Stayed here 5 nights at the end of a touring holiday with wife and two late teens sons. The hotel did the basics well - check-in was quick and front desk staff generally friendly and co-operative (not always a Californian trait, we found). We were looking for something that was affordable during high season and reasonably located in Santa Monica. A tall order since most of the hotels seemed to be fully booked or too pricey for our budget. This one fit our needs and we were not disappointed. Stayed here with my daughter during her move to LA to attend grad school this summer. Very clean and convenient with an IHOP restaurant at the hotel. Best part was free parking! It was just right for our needs. Short drive to the beach and lots of restaurants and shops. Would definitely stay here again. Great hotel for the money.... more

We just stayed here 2 nights during our CA tour and really did enjoy it. The IHOP restaurant is FANTASTIC for breakfast. The food and service are both excellent. Also, the rooms are very clean and the location is close enough to downtown Santa Monica to visit the Pier & Promenade. Just give yourself about 20 minutes to walk down... more

Given the price of accomodation in Santa Monica, the Best Western Gateway provided excellent value for money. The hotel itself was excellent, its main drawback was its location. It was about 40 mins walk from Santa Monica beach, although the public bus service had stops in both directions right outside the hotel and it took about 5 minutes into town... more
