We booked a river-view room in advance for five days. When we arrived, we found we had a view not so much of the river (as promised), but of the patio and bar. Seated at the bar were a number of patrons, sloppy drunk and talking loudly. Walking back to my car, I saw one of the patrons leaving the... more

If you have small children this is definitely not the place to stay, and the restaurant is most certainly not equipped for small children. The rooms were very small, and the bathrooms are smaller than my half bath! They crammed two double beds in a space that is barely enough room for a queen. The comforters are warm, but the... more

We discovered the River Ranch Lodge in Fodors and after checking out the Sunnyside Lodge and others settled in at the River Ranch Lodge and had a great three day stay. We had the perfect room overlooking the Truckee River because we came late in the summer season on a Monday. We are (my wife and I) both architects and... more

This hotel is the perfect place to stay in north Lake Tahoe. Our room (#23) was beautifully decorated in mountain decor (see pictures) and had a lovely porch overlooking the Truckee river. The beds are very comfortable and featured a down duvet and down pillows. The only downside to the room was the bathroom, which could use some updates. An... more

This will validate the previous, numerous bad reviews. The pictures of the room on the web were taken with a rose colored lens. The steps going up the rooms appeared well worn and not maintained. The small bathroom looked like something out of the 1940s Route 66 el cheapo motel. The tile looked as though it was grouted so as... more

This is a wonderful place to stay in Tahoe. Frankly, my wife and I don't understand - at all - the negative reviews on this web site. Our experience was only positive. This is a beautifully located, rustic lodge on the spectacular Truckee River. Our room, decorated in a mountain lodge motif, was large, very clean, and comfortable. The free... more

The staff were friendly and helpful but the rooms are awful. The room was marginally clean and missing basics like soap and working telephones. The biggest problem was the lack of air and privacy. One window faced the parking lot (over-crowded with people boarding buses after rafting down the Truckee River) and the other opened on the back of the... more

After booking directly through the lodge four months in advance and receiving written confirmation of the room we booked, which was an upstairs, king, balcony with river view, away from the patio area, when we checked in we got a downstairs, patio room, near the busy road and over looking the patio restaurant. The bathroom in our room was moldy,... more

The River Ranch is a classic for those of us that spent a season or more up here as ski bums. Of course, as a ski bum I never had the cash to stay here, so despite living directly behind it I hadn't ever stayed here until recently. This place just plain rocks- the location is minutes from Tahoe City,... more

This place was like staying at my home away from home, very family friendly. We walked in and automatically felt welcome by the front desk person. The rooms have such a cozy feeling. The beds were very comfortable too. The restaurant was wonderful, everything from the menu to the wine list was outstanding. In addition to the great food and... more
