I traveled with my sister, a first time visitor to northern California, to the Tomales Bay region in late September. We found the Continental Inn in Tomales to be just what we were looking for. Set in the charming little strip of buildings that make up Tomales, CA, it was a great location for exploring the area...quiet and rural in... more

Tomales is a small out of the way place in Marin County, California, USA. About an hour north of San Francisco. The Continental Inn is a fabulous place to stay. The rooms are large, extremely clean and well furnished. The beds and linens are so comfortable you don't want to get out of bed. Staying here is like staying at... more

We were travelling from Europe and stopped over at this hotel on a Friday night. The place sits on the main street of tiny tomales next to a former bank (turned artist workroom) and an old saloon-looking all-american bar. It has a sort of gold-rush feeling to it that we loved immediatly. Inside, the plush lobby and our room were... more

We were "homeless" in California because we refused to stay at the hotel we had booked (Timber Cove). We had dinner at Rocker Oysterfeller's in Valley Ford, and they although they have rooms above the restaurant, they were a little too small and rustic for us. The restaurant staff recommended The Continental Inn in Tomales, and called Penny, the owner... more

This Inn is a mandatory stop for me and I always book a room for the first three days of my California vacation to decompress from my hectic job in Connecticut, stopping at Muir Woods on the way North along Route 1. The Inn is situated in a quiet simple village; the peaceful setting suits my need to relax perfectly.... more

We were looking for a charming Inn to stay at near Dillon Beach. We couldn't have found a more reasonable and quaint Inn than The Continental Inn. The room was large and there was a lovely quilt on the VERY comfortable bed. The bathroom had been recently updated and was very clean. That night a few doors down we had... more

Avoid this place if possible. You can hear noise from the other rooms and loud rush hour road noise as well because some rooms are right on the main road. If someone drops a shoe upstairs it wakes you up downstairs. Very old funky furniture. You are not told before you arrive that you are sharing one phone/computer line with... more

Tomales is a very small town - a general store, bakery, deli, church, restaurant, real estate office and this Inn. So for a real getaway, this is the place! From the easy-going innkeeper to the serve-yourself tea and coffee setup, privacy reigns. We had a room with 2 windows (both opened), a corner fireplace and down bedding to sink into. There were... more

The is a stale dull little hole in the wall. Extremely noisy and not a great location or worth the money. The one near by restaurant is lacking as well. The owner of the Inn lives in Sausalito and not only does she boss her guests around but she hogs the one shared phone line and then barks at the... more
