The hotel itself is fine. Rooms are clean and updated, pool is nice, breakfast is good, but the location sucks. If you are looking to visit the Santa Cruz area, I would suggest the Best Western in Scotts Valley. It is a way better deal and closer to downtown Santa Cruz. more

Bottom line--the neighborhood is questionable--maybe unsafe. The hotel itself is nice. Rooms are cute, amenities are average (except cold pool), and the contintenal breakfast (waffles awesome) was good. Basically, put this hotel in a better area and it would be a AAA three diamond.
