When a bad motel scene in Ouray forced us to look for lodging in Silverton, and, finding that town sold out, we went calling on the hotels and motels in Durango. The only one we could find with an available room was the Dollar Inn. We wondered how bad it could be? When we pulled up and saw it, we thought we were in for a nightmare. '50's style - what my son calls "ghetto" turned out to be that in appearance only. We entered our room by key (remember those?) and were greeted with stark bare walls, beaten furniture, yet a recently refurbished bathroom. The bed didn't sag in the wrong places, there were no mystery stains, there weren't any odors from hell, the wall fan/cooling/heating unit looked like somebody had taken a sledgehammer to it, but it and the TV worked. It had a working fridge and a new microwave.
