We were hesitant after reading the reviews here, but had a great experience. The building is old and worn but the lobby, halls and room were clean. The comforter was a bit dirty but like every hotel, the comforters aren't washed. Our room faced a huge air conditioning unit of another building and we had some noise, but it didn't... more

I've stayed at the Duncan Hotel twice now and no, it isn't a five star swanky place with room service and all the amenities. What it is; A beautiful hotel reminicent of another era with period furnishings, artifacts and an original look. You'll hear squeaks and creeks, if the elevator man isn't there those stairs can be a long hike....... more

The Duncan is an eccentric hotel that will appeal to some and not to others. Located downtown on Chapel St., the hotel is surrounded by dozens of interesting restaraunts and small shops. There is a well reviewed Thai restaurant in the basement. We walked everywhere we wanted to go. The hotel has a comfortable old style lobby and a hand... more

it has been by far the my worst experience at a hotel and I spend at least 30 days a day in hotels all over the country!!! the service was just appalling. I think the guy at the front desk has psychopath. more

The elevator boasts a sign claiming to be the oldest elevator in CT. I believe the elevator man (yes, it needs one) said it was 114 years old. I might have been happier not knowing that, but at least it worked... when it was staffed... which was only during the day... so when you stumble in late at night, you're... more

I have stayed at the Duncan Hotel three times during 2007 and 2008. I've had a good experience all three times. The staff have always been courteous. My room has always been clean, though not particularly lovely. I can put up with dated decor to get an excellent price. In September, the room was rather warm. A fan was provided.... more

First, let me say that the only time a maid has ever thanked me for a tip was at the Duncan. The bellhop seemed genuinely surprised to be tipped for taking my bag to the room door, and the concierge was helpful and friendly enough, both on the phone and in person. I came across the Duncan when my son... more

Don't be fooled by the entry way and lobby, the rooms are absolutely disgusting. Pay the extra money and stay somewhere else. more

Go elsewhere! The staff at this hotel is INCREDIBLY rude. I saw the manager openly insult customers; he did not seem to care at all whether customers are at all at ease at the hotel. The hotel is run down; the room was small and smelly; and the bathroom was stained and dirty-looking. Pay a little more and avoid being... more

I have spent many nights in cheap hotels before (motel 6) and I have never seen anything like this hotel. The receptionist at the front desk was unquestionably rude and unhelpful. The room was dark and musty and seemed like it was made up of furniture from the dump or a flea market. The carpet and the sheets were not... more
