We stayed one night in a 2 bedroom suite ($399) for a family event. This is a lovely property- the gardens are impossibly beautiful, and the common spaces are handsomely decorated. Our room was large and very comfortable, with a sitting area and wet bar (with fridge) on the lower level, and two bedrooms on the upper level. The 2... more

Just returned from a one night stay on September 13th. This is special occassion trip, usually anniversary or birthday and we have stayed several times before. The check in was prompt and courteous as was the delivery to our room via golf cart The room was fine even down to the choclates at bedtime. Do yourself a favor and dine... more

In February I stayed at the Inn at Montchanin Village, located in Montchanin (Wilmington), Delaware. I highly recommend it. It is definitely a cut above. The service was wonderful and the many amenities provided put it a step above most other places I’ve stayed. After we checked in at the main building, an employee met us at our car in... more

My wife and I (and our 15-month old baby) just returned from a very nice one night stay at The Inn at Montchanin. We stayed on a Sunday night (which is apparently a slow time at this time of year). We were in a Superior Suite (Jefferson) and found it to be very nice. The suite had a large king... more

I first discovered the Inn at Montchanin when it had literally just opened -- some 10, 12 years ago or more. At the time, a room night there was on the upper end of my leisure travel budget and it was my favorite hideaway place in the U.S. (an easy weekend distance from homes, at various times, in Baltimore, Washington... more

My co-worker & I both stayed at the Inn at Montchanin for a business trip in the Wilmington area. The Inn was beautiful and we were pleased to find internet service available in the rooms. I was even able to sit outside on the patio & conduct my business surrounded by flowers one morning. Cell phone service was spotty- but... more

We spent a 3-day holiday weekend at the Inn and stayed in Carpenter C, a lovely room on the second floor. This is one of the less expensive rooms; we paid $199 per night (before a 10% AAA discount). It was spacious and beautifully furnished, with a large marble-tiled bathroom with shower (our preference). As others have noted, the property... more

We paid $270 for our suite, the most we've ever paid and even from the start wondered if it would be worth it considering it did not come with the usual amenities one expects for that price. No breakfast, not fireplace, no jacuzzi. Our stay confirmed our impression. Agree with most of the nice things said about the place but... more

Having had a terrible experience here last July with filthy sheets and a dirty room, I was reluctant to stay again. Unfortunately I found myself in the area on business with the Dupont fully booked. Hoping that the other glowing reviews on TripAdvisor were true, I decided to give the Inn another shot. Big mistake. The rooms are still worn,... more

Management response from
jalou13, owner

The Inn at Montchanin Village welcomes constructive suggestions and wish that the guest had contacted the General Manager so that the issues could have been dealt with in person. Like a restaurant, it is the customer who walks out the door saying their meal was ok, when in reality they tell their friends that they will never go back again....

This small community of guest houses is undeniably unique and the property has its charms. However, the rooms are unspectacular , as are the location and service. Neat, but not truly great. Still, a decent value. more
