Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Greeted with a smile from Stephanie at the gate when we first arrived and excellent service from several staff members! Eric and Basil at Angler & Ale. Jhanel and G at the Tranquility Pool. Omar, Georgina, and Denisia at Prime. Levar, Jared, Jorge at the marina. However, the resort is definitely in need of some upgrades and updates. The Marina Store will be a nice addition.

We spent two lovely nights at Hawks Cay Resort and truly enjoyed every moment of it. Special shoutout to Maria P. and Stefanie J. in reservations for helping us secure a last-minute booking! The resort property is gorgeous and the hotel room we had in the main building was tasteful, clean, spacious, and had a large balcony with the most incredible views. There is a variety of dining options available at different price points and everything we tried was plentiful and tasty. We didn't really have enough time to enjoy the many amenities they offer, but just lounging at the main resort pool, enjoying the music and a tropical drink was the exact kind of relaxing weekend getaway we were looking for.

We just stayed in a townhouse, a two bedroom villa for seven nights with five of us. Positives The resort is truly beautiful. The pools are all very nice. The restaurants, while expensive or all very good. The staff was incredibly kind. Disappointments We had five people in a two bedroom villa, and during a seven night stay we were only able to get housekeeping one time which I think is ridiculous . Note, while advertised is several beaches, it’s not a real beach on the ocean. There is a very tiny beach, called Sunset Beach, where you can stand and watch the sunset. There is sand around a lagoon as well however, just note, there’s no normal proper beach at all, kids were disappointed in that. Unit did not have adequate hot water. It was showers for a week barely above lukewarm, which is frustrating when you’re spending 10K on a weeklong trip. TV’s are no longer expensive. These TV’s were like 20” ones literally hard to see. Plus, they are not smart TV’s which is crazy for such an expensive resort. Everything is way overpriced, for example if you want to rent a golf cart it’s $180 for a four seater golf cart… Every “drink” is 18-20 plus tax and 10 for a beer. Just be prepared. WiFi was Horrible! The children complained every night after bath time because the WiFi didn’t work well for their one hour allowed on the iPads. We will find a different resort next time!

Our first night we stayed in the main hotel and it was nice. The rest of the trip we moved into one of the town homes and it was great for a family. Note, many of the townhomes are owned by individuals, so some have better upgrades than others. The hotel grounds are picturesque. We enjoyed the heated pool and the man-made lagoon. We fished day and night on the pier behind our townhouse and engaged in many fun activities (boat tours, coral reef snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, etc.). Restaurants on campus on solid. The biggest complaint would be the cost of anything extra. The hotel has a store on premises with drinks and snacks--but It's pricey. As are the drinks from the bar and the "special" activities you can book through the hotel. Still, a great time and we'll likely come back again in the future. Overall, a nice place to have a family vacation.

This was our first second trip to Hawks Cay. We stayed there a year ago with family, six adults. Had a great time, loved the resort so much. We booked again for this year. What a difference. In one year’s Time the resort has declined in quality. For two days, the elevator wasn’t working. A woman was trapped in the elevator and became hysterical, which was observed. For two days, we had no hot water in the morning or in the mid afternoon, two days where the satellite TV wasn’t working, and the Wi-Fi connections were sporadic at best. For the price we paid for the stay I expected better quality and better service. We have gotten that in the past, which is why we came back again this year. I think this was our last stay though. We paid over $700 per night per couple and expected better. We tried contacting the manager who would never get back to us. Unless you absolutely have to stay at Duck Key I would find another resort.

We stayed in an updated 3-BR villa and it was fantastic. The food was decent - we had mixed reviews for the Prime steakhouse - my ribeye was excellent, but everyone who had the fillet was disappointed. The highlight was Omar, our server. He is one of the best servers we've had anywhere in the Keys. Another highlight was Jason at the adult pool bar - he was fantastic!

We have been visiting this resort for years with our family. The property itself is wonderful and they recently put in eight Pickleball courts and a pickleball clinic every morning that is run by Patrick and he does a phenomenal job. However, it is disappointing that on the property there is no fishing allowed. This has changed over the years, and I am not sure why. The villas are a little tired looking and the staff is not very friendly overall. However, “Buckeye Donnie” at the Lagoon oversees all the paddle boards and rafts for the day. He is very helpful and friendly with the kids. He is one of the best staff member we have encountered here on our visit. Here's a tip for when ordering a drink at the bar. Don’t go to the main tiki bar, go see Jason at adult only Pilnar Bar. He’s efficient at handling a crowd AND MAKES THE BEST DRINKS. At the tiki bar we stood there 20 minutes, and the bartender couldn’t get to us because she was the only one making the drinks for the whole pool. The tiki bar was understaffed. Oh, and housekeeping. We were allowed one day to pick to have housekeeping come over 3 days and no one came. Even though there is no fishing, there are quite a few other things for the kids to do like going to Coral Cay which is a sports complex with a basketball court, soccer field, putt putt, a pool and a splash pad for a little ones. You can rent a golf cart if you’re interested. There is also a dolphin experience available which is quite fun. Some of the best sunrises and sunsets I have seen have been at this resort. Take a walk to the marina when the fisherman come in, and they are cutting up their fish and you can see hammerhead, tarpon, manatee, and other fish and wildlife. There’s definitely room for Hawks Cay to improve, but overall I do recommend this resort for some family fun and adventure.

Had great weather and enjoyed the resort and its tranquil location with safety on the cove. The walking in the morning and at sunset was so great. The pools and the low attendance was amazing. We saw so much wild life while there, it was an awesome trip.

Husband had a Medical Conference to attend, we stayed for week, centrally located in the keys on Duck Key. The amenities are too many to name but everything you need for a wonderful, relaxing vacation. They have family friendly pool and an adult only pool section- which is brillant. Free parking, clean, spacious ocean view rooms, friendly and courteous staff everywhere and there are Dolphins at resort! You can also enjoy 2 restaurants, boating at marina and gym and spa on property. Our room was clean, comfy and had a great view of the pool. We recommend Hawks Cay for families or couples- lots to do!
