Worst surprise ever! We were excited to stay in Everglades City until we arrived at the warzone that is the Banks of the Everglades Bed & Breakfast. The place looked awful. We arrived and there was no one to greet us. We weren't sure we had the right place except for the photos of the building on the website. Finally,... more

very cluttered in lobby, personnell very strange but rooms are very quaint and well equipped including wifi. Had an erie feeling when entering and decided to "move on" after one night. Some people I have talked to love this place, but I didn't see it. I recommended it recently to my uncle, he took one look in the lobby and... more

Our family typically prefers B&Bs to chain hotels/motels and this one looked promising. An old bank building surrounded by palm trees and painted in Florida sea foam appeared delightfully charming in photos. But I was disappointed. At over $120 per night for 2 of us, our room was worn and dark. The sheets were threadbare, the pillow cases had stains,... more

Esther and her sister Cheryl are delightful, interesting people running a quirky b and b where we felt cherished, informed and entertained. Certainly not the place for those whose holiday requirements are chain hotels without charm or individuality. Everglades City is a great place from which to explore the uncommercialised end of the beautiful park, and be sure to take... more

We had a really great stay at the Bank of the Everglades, also known as Everglades Spa-Fari & Lodge. The Spa treatments (massage & facial) were better than I've received elsewhere in 5-star hotels. The ambience is laid back, very friendly, very casual. The furniture is classic Olde Florida: comfortable, clean and user-friendly. My room had a mini-kitchen with microwave,... more

This is the only place I have ever stayed where I feel part of the family; you will not find a more sincere, warmer welcome, that is far more important to me than a swish cocktail lounge etc. I call the Bank my second home & escape from the UK as often as possible. I look forward to the peace,... more

After reading several reviews of this b&b I felt it my duty to set the record straight regarding the Banks of the Everglades. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and stayed at the banks in late september of this year. When we first arrived I couldn't help but notice a huge trailer parked on the front lawn. I... more

This casual B&B is perhaps best for the somewhat adventurous who do not need everything ticktyboo. I arrived at night and it was a bit hard to find the building in the dark. Much to my chagrin, it appeared that no one was there; although a non-English speaking person appeared, a helper, who didn't know anything about my reservation. I... more

I had read such positive reviews of this place before going here in December 2003 that I expected something really nice. When we arrived, the woman who took us to our room was not friendly at all. I had read that breakfast was served in a vault (this is an old bank) but when I asked her about breakfast, she... more

...in other words perfect. On the Banks of the Everglades is a down-to-earth B&B that doesn't twist your arm to be part of a B&B scene. Breakfast is delivered to your room each day - straightforward, kid-friendly things like fresh fruit, english muffins, cereal, yogurt and juice. Our host Claudia was kind enough to let us borrow the insulated bag... more
