The staff is very nice -- not super high-end hotel cheerbots, but good and helpful regular folk. I arrived at 5 AM or so on Sunday morning without reservation. I mentioned I wanted wi-fi, so they put me in a room near the lobby, where their wi-fi antenna is. I wound up staying 4 more nights. They very nicely gave... more

At first I was not impressed but it is by no means a "disgusting motel" as some have described it. Looks to be from the old 50'/60's South Beach/Vegas era. But the lobby is clean and has updated decor. The front desk personnel were nice and provided helpful information for restaurants, sights, and issues we had with the air conditioner... more

We've been coming to the Silver Sands with our two boys for years, and it never changes. It's a retro-style '60s motel with so-so housekeeping, lamentable room decor, an under-equipped efficiency kitchen and (other than the primitive laundry room and the heated pool with towel service) no real amenities. It's beachfront, but this year the beach was short and disgusting... more

Just back from a week in Florida. Stayed two nights at Silver Sands and just loved it. Our family of four was in one of the cottages— charming, clean and tastefully furnished in a traditional, homey style although basic. Our children (pre-teen) loved the place: the wonderful beach (only a 3 min. walk from our doorstep), the tropical garden with... more

I recently had the displeasure of staying her for a couple nights and I was literally shocked at how disgusting and out of date this place is, and for $160 a night it's not cheap!! The hotel looks semi-abandoned when you pull up (in fact, the old Sonesta resort next door really IS abandoned, which doesn't help). The outside is... more

In 1978 my wife and I spent some nights at the silver sands hotel during our honeymoon so we decided to end our trip through Florida at this motel on January 10th 2008 as a kind of 30th anniversary. Much has changed since then. Due to hurrican impact the nice sand bar restaurant, which closed the right side of the... more

If you want an affordable place to stay in Key Biscayne, this is it. If you want a clean, updated within the last century hotel - you might want to consider spending a little more money to stay somewhere else. The staff was friendly enough and the courtyard area is refereshing - maybe we should have slept outdoors with the... more

I will never forget the Silver Sands Motel because my husband asked the cab driver to keep driving because it could not possibly be the right place when we first drove by the outdated exterior. Imagine these problems: moody staff, unresponsive staff, dirty room, and sandy floors and consider ungrading to the Sonesta, that is the neighbor of this resort.... more

Pros: The kitchenettes are convenient for storing and reheating leftovers. The beach is really close to the rooms (about a one minute walk from our door) and very uncrowded in front of the hotel. Beach was nice - almost no waves and clear water (although quite a bit of seaweed). Front desk staff friendly. The laundry machine and small hotel... more

The hotel is really overpriced at $170-190/night. The room was dirty (especially the kitchen area). Little ants were everywhere. The beach in front of the hotel is awful, full of trash and sea grass. On the plus side, Key Biscayne is very nice. It was easy to walk to much nicer beach in front of other hotels and condominiums. There... more
