In fairness, Kona Kai does look above average for the area, but what it advertises as quaint and private could also be seen as slightly shabby and small. And at these prices I shouldn't feel guilty about wanting fresh towels or having my room cleaned. Our bathroom was tiny and in need of an update, but clean. The location is... More

We stayed at Kona Kai with our 3 adult children (mid twenty-somethings) for six nights in the middle of January. It was absolutely amazing! Our accommodations (a 1-bedroom suite, connected to a single room) were spacious and lovely. This was our first trip to the Keys, and when we turned off US 1 into the Kona Kai property, we gasped!... Dear Aul4: Thanks for the glowing review. Glad to know here at Kona Kai Resort, Gallery and Botanic Gardens we are living up to our promises! Doesn't sound like you took our ethnobotanists botanical garden tour which is quite enlightening - maybe next time. As for the cell-phone internet service: we are aware that most cell phone service is weak... More

This is my first review (even though I research everywhere we go thoroughly) because this is the first place that made that much of an impact. My husband and I had a too short 2-night getaway at the Kona Kai between Christmas and New Year's weekends. It was the perfect place to relax, unwind, reconnect and chill out. The sunsets... More

We are not the kind of people who tend to stay in luxurious places...and to arrive here, after our trip to Ecuador, for a few days of cosseting, was unbelievable! We haven't been to the Keys before, and I had no idea it was such a stunning area of natural beauty. The resort is right on the bay front, and... More

What a wonderful surprise! This small, carefully cared for gem of a place is tucked into the Key Largo Bay where manatee swim and fish fly out of the water at sunset. If you are looking for restorative moments and a staff who can direct you (but know how to stay out of your way), beautiful surroundings in a peaceful... More

Thank you Linda Z! The greatest joy for our entire staff is a: "Kona Kai was exactly what we needed." We strive for this with every guest, and while we work towards perfection, that's not always possible yet we always do our best to keep our "score in the 90's." The best way to enjoy Kona Kai is to let... More

We were here celebrating our 25th anniversary, the staff was amazing, very informative about where to eat, and what to do in the area. The resort itself is so beautiful, I enjoyed sitting on the dock with my feet in the water and also napping by the pool. Cant forget the super friendly squirrels that will just right up on... More

Dear Cynanne: So glad you found our staff "amazing," as that is what they strive for so thank you for the sincere compliment! Nice to read your comments about the beauty and restfulness that Kona Kai offered you, and sorry to learn the mosquito truck came by so late - normally, when needed (summertime), they come by around 7pm. To... More

Just got back from a two night "unwind" break at this lovely little resort. The suite we got had a lovely little kitchen and a comfy little bed. I say little bed as it was probably the smallest queen bed I have ever slept in and although comfortable, my boyfriend and I have never been closer. The room itself was... More

This is a superbly well taken care of small resort. It has an attractive swimming pool, small beach, tennis court, kayaks and grounds that the owners obviously love. Tracey, Denise and Veronica were all very friendly and helpful to us. The botanical garden tour is a couple of well-spent hours with the resident ethnobotonist. Our room was beautifully appointed and... More

LOVED it here. Wish we could've stayed for more than one night. Setting overlooking the bay so stunning we decided to bring dinner in so we could watch the sunset from the Kona Kai dock instead of at a restaurant. Hammock was perfect for 2, pool was beautiful and our bed was way too comfortable - we slept for 12... More
