Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This small hotel is friendly, beautiful and convenient to attractions. Ray, the manager went out of his way to ensure a wonderful visit. Included breakfast was nice. Pool heated. Room and bed comfortable. We walked to all the places we wanted to visit. Music nightly. Highly recommend.

It is like walking into another world when you are at The Gardens Hotel. The fountain in the courtyard surrounded by palm trees is like an oasis. The path through the garden transports you to another world as it has lots of sculptures, birds, and quiet nooks as well as tortoises in an enclosed area. Yet just outside the walls is Old Town Key West. The nightly music and wine bar are wonderful additions to your vacation. Breakfast is very nice, especially sitting outside with filtered light through the palm trees.

If you are looking for a relaxing oasis with a real Key West vibe then the Gardens is the place for you. There never seemed to be a crowd at the pool or the pool bar and all the staff were friendly and willing to help make your stay as pleasant as possible. One of the best pluses is its location. It sits just a block off of Duval street , halfway between the ocean side and the Gulf . It is a super relaxing hidden gem. If you are looking for a hard partying, rowdy Key West adventure this is NOT the place for you.

A tropical garden paradise steps away from the bustle of Duval. The beds were comfortable and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. Daily room service was great as was the Sunday night jazz. (See photo below). Great breakfast included every morning. No car was necessary as almost everything is within walking distance. We loved everything about it.

This place is the opposite of sterile and corporate. Truly a magical place, The Gardens Hotel offers gracious service and comfortable lodging on beautiful grounds dressed up with Asian-inspired art, a koi pond and a tortoise sanctuary. A block off rowdy Duval Street, the place felt like a quiet sanctuary to return to after a day of sightseeing and imbibing. Centrally located in Old Town, we could walk just about anywhere. They offer various kinds of accommodations ranging from guest rooms in the main house to larger cottages. Our courtyard room was spacious, immaculate and beautifully decorated with a shared outside porch. It was too cool to swim when we were there, but the heated pool looked very inviting. The daily rate includes a hearty breakfast including eggs, toast, biscuits, yogurt, juice and fresh coffee. They even hold free weekly Sunday jazz concerts, well attended by the local community as well as hotel guests. We saw Debra and Patrick Lawler who were sensational musicians. The affable hotel owner Miss Kate was frequently on the property greeting the guests, along with her adorable dog "Tiny". Absolutely loved my experience at The Gardens Hotel and plan to return.

The Gardens Hotel is both pluses and negatives. It is a secluded environment a half block off Duval Street. Duval is the Key Wests version of NOLAs Bourbon street. Unfortunately it is directly under the airports flight path and next door to the fire department . The Hotel is suffering from some delayed maintenance. One of the windows to our room was falling apart and no longer sealed (1 inch gap , 18 inches long). The nightly cocktail music 5-7 pm was great. The daily breakfast was welcomed.

Thank you Mark, for your review. Our tiny Island is 2 x 4 miles and you will hear planes landing and taking off anywhere on the island - and chickens as well :) When the window board came off it was fixed instantly. You are correct that it should not have happened, however, please consider our climate and the beating everything takes here. It was just the one out of three windows to be correct. All of our buildings are wood and some are historic. We like to think of the fire department across the street as a good thing being so close. We hope you enjoyed your 7 night stay with us and the one hick up on the window board we apologize for.

This was a Pricey Hotel! But worth it! Be prepared for additional daily bed taxes and state tax charges. The location was a coupe blocks off Duval street and was super private and serene. We stayed in a cottage with its separate pool which took the privacy up a notch. The charm of the gardens throughout the property and the terrace where we had breakfast every morning was beautiful...just like something out of old key west. The piano happy hour every night in the lobby was a nice touch and the self serve wine bar was fun. The sculptures, furniture and feel of this hotel were all so lovely. My husband and I went with his brother and I can easily see returning by myself. Its that charming. The breakfast wasn't great that would be my only complaint for such a beautiful hotel. Heavy on carbs and the sausage biscuit was hard as a rock. The street out front of the hotel did flood due to the previous night rainfall but subsided a few hours later. We had to use another entrance to get to breakfast. Apparently thats a normal occurance in Key West. Overall would highly recommend if you are looking for a super charming lovely boutique hotel. The gardens!!!!! The turtles were a nice surprise too! And of course their property cat!

Thank you Angela for your review. It seems you all had a great visit. Yes the street in front does flood in heavy rains. The City put new wells that were supposed to be great (it never flooded before). But now it does. When the rain stops it clears in about 20 - 30 minutes. That said, we created a gate to the side of our property so our Cottage guests can go back and forth. With regard to the taxes, the tax per night is 12.5%. State tax is 7.5 and the other bit is called bed tax. That bit goes to promoting the Florida Keys and to infrastructure. It also supports many art and cultural events throughout the keys. With regard to our complimentary made to order breakfasts. We have six rotating menus for our table served breakfast. Guests can pick any or all items or substitute. The carbs would be the biscuit ( I apologize that it was not perfect), pancake, fresh baked goods and side bread. We hope to see you on your next visit and Lucy cat says hi!

I can’t say enough about the Gardens hotel and this was our 31 stay. My husband and I fell in love with this beautiful little boutique hotel back in 2006 and have been staying here year after year ever since. It is a type of place that you wouldn’t expect since it is located just steps off of Duval St. When you enter the main building to check in, the staff is warm and welcoming. Once you check in, you will be escorted to your room which will be located in one of the various buildings surrounding the beautiful pool and gardens. Each room has a full bath and either a front porch or balcony to overlook the grounds. A full hot breakfast is served daily and included, but we usually like to go out for breakfast, but it is a great option. We particularly enjoy after a day out and about, relaxing at the pool bar. The bartenders are so much fun and great to talk to and share your stories about your daily experiences in Key West. And an added bonus they have nightly entertainment where you can catch Sunday jazz or Kenny playing the piano. Let’s just say once you stay at the Gardens, you’ll be hooked like my husband and I are. For us, it is almost like coming home. There is no other place quite like the Gardens. It is a magical place.
