Stayed at the Southside Hurricane Lake campground on 1 Dec 07. It's a cool peninsula basically surrounded by water. There are only maybe 15 campsites and they're spaced pretty well. Some of the ground is uneven, but I slept well. The scenery is great, and if you hop in the car you can drive to the bridge over the Blackwater River. There is a trail just off of that marked by orange tags that is pretty neat to follow. It's pretty secluded and you have good views of the river and also the white sandy beaches. The campsite itself was good, with a fire pit and picnic tables. The lake itself is pretty big (see photos) and if i had a kayak or something that would've been fun. They do say watch out for alligators, but i didn't seen any at that time of year. The campground on the south side has a relatively clean bathroom but no showers or anything. It was only $5 a night so that was nice. more
