Given the limited hotel choices of Charleston its not a completely terrible place, safe, comfortable enough, and relatively clean. However, we encountered several problems. One family member tried to book one room and was booked 15! Upon calling to settle the error, each of the other family members were promised non-smoking queen rooms all close by. Although we did receive... more

Our party stayed 2 nights (2 rooms) and found the motel clean and quiet. Yes it is an older property but in quite acceptable condition. Management was very nice. Contintental breakfast was limited but consistent with a reasonable room price. Make sure you also visit the excellent Mexican restaurant in Chalreston, Los Portillos. more

I had the greatest time ever. This hotel is so nice and the people who work there are very smart. It is also right across the street from El Rancherito which is the greatest food ever made.My friends and I walked to the Panther Paw seventeen times the two days we were there. It is only one mile from the... more

This hotel is bug infested. If you plan on sleeping under the covers, make sure there aren't any bugs sleeping with you as I have had the pleasure of them greeting me while they (r.i.p.) rested in peace. Also, when receiving incoming phone calls on your hotel line the typical response your party will receive from the front desk can... more

This place was formerly a Holiday Inn in the 70s and early 80s but failed to keep up with HI standards. I'm not sure it's even up to BW standards today. The old metal door on the room was hard to close and latch. The carpet and bathroom flooring needed replacement. The TV was mis programmed and the AC had... more

Our hotel is an older hotel we try to meet the guests expectations as much as possible. The front desk is trained and there are many phone lines available to call so the phone should never be busy. We have made many improvements and continue to make improvements.

This place sucks as far as hotels go. Their only benefit is that they are close to EIU, which is why they can stay in business. This is as close to camping as you can get without the comfort of having a clean sleeping bag in your own comfortable tent. Seriously though, it is warm, dry, there is a shower,... more

Scary, scary, scary place. I stayed at this hotel this past weekend while on my trip to homecoming at Eastern Ilinois University. I normally stay in Mattoon because of the newer hotel properties and the general sell-out situation at the Charleston properties over homecoming weekend. I really thought I had lucked out when I got a hotel right in town... more

Lets see. We'll start with management. I made a 4 day reservation online, arrived, and found the guy having a casual, not business, conversation in a foreign language. He never got off the phone, which is incredibly rude. He paused long enough to tell me where my room was, cirlce it on a map, and hand me a key. After... more

Just spent a week at the Best Western in Charleston. First the pluses. VERY convenient to EIU (which is why we were there). Decent swimming pool. Beds comfortable. Internet access - usually. Felt like a very safe location (as is all of Charleston). Lots of fast food places nearby. Gave me a better rate than I found on line since... more
