I visited the Olde Squat Inn for a mother-daughter weekend getaway. We stayed in the lovely church cabin. The quiet, peaceful seclusion was exactly what we needed. We enjoyed sitting by the fire and simply spending time together. Jim even brought us a puzzle to work on. We also enjoyed the quick drive over to Marion to do a little... More

The Old Squat Inn offers beautiful hand-crafted log cabin rentals in scenic Southern Illinois. Our cabin intertwined modern conveniences with a vintage touch. Surrounded by logs dating from the 1850's, we couldn't help but speculate as to what these walls had seen. The elegant simplicity created the perfect environment for our getaway. The fun, friendly, and flexible owners make this... More

My husband and I have stayed at over 20 cabins around the country. Most are modern and beautifully decorated with rustic accessories that are easily found at many modern gift shops. The Old Squat Inn, however, is a collection of true 1800s cabins, decorated with authentic, antique goodies, inside and out, that take you back to a simpler time. We... More

We (a german family) were staying 6 days in "Uncle Jims" Old Squat Inn and we love it. Our children come back to the ground. After some days they are really happy children. The cabins are wonderfull and the breakfast is unbelievable. So much things and homemade. Applecake, muffins, pancake, eggsoufle, potatoes with ham and and and ... Katy make... More

We were eager to see and stay in log cabins that date back to the 1850's. The Old Squat Inn did not disappoint. Our innkeeper is a collector of old cabins which he reconstructs on his property and situates around his lake. It is a real throwback to days gone by--the rugged individual who learns to do for himself whatever... More

We just completed our 4th stay at the Olde Squat Inn and had an enjoyable time as expected. In looking at the various reviews, I find that people either love it or not, so let me offer some help for those considering their first stay. What you expect will make all the difference in your stay. If you expect recently... More

We've just returned home from our four night stay at the Olde Squat Inn. We're looking at our calendars this morning to figure out when we can go back. Others have covered the outstanding experience of Jim & Katie's knowledge of the Southern Illinois area, and the great sightseeing advice offered during breakfast around the old tables in the dining... The Old Squat Inn is a great place for couples and families to stay and visit Southern Illinois. Twenty minutes from the Marion exit, it is also a great place to stay for just one night. The cabins are comparable to the average house from where we are from in Chicago. They are well decorated and feel very comfortable. All... More

Jim, Katy and the dogs make Olde Squat Inn a splendidly pleasant place to get away from city life and enjoy nature, homecooked breakfasts (best I've ever had!!!), walks around their beautiful pond, fishing, learning about Southern Illinois and all that it offers, and much more. The cabins are rustic, intentionally so, so one should not expect the equivalent of... More

Was on a mission to trace some of the family history and found this B&B online. It looked rustic and remote, a far cry from the Chicago Suburbs so had to check it out. If you are looking for a modern place to stay, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a historic and... More
