People at front desk get real rude if you make a complain about anything wrong with you room. I wouldn’t recommend staying here at all, the price is not bad if rent it per month, but you will be traveling home with an infestation of bed bugs. Spend some more money for some other place to stay and be safe and comfortable.

We've stayed here for the last 10 years whenever we visit Dubuque. We love the eclectic and retro vibe of the hotel and the staff is always very nice to us. Location is great. Although not top-notch mattresses by any means, they've always at least been comfortable enough to sleep on. After this weekend, it's evident the mattress we slept on 10 years ago is still the same mattress being used in room 617. It was hard as a rock and there were only 2 completely flat pillows. We spent a very uncomfortable night tossing and turning. Also, there are still some rooms that allow smoking and this time the smoke smell was really overwhelming. Most rooms have a "no smoking" sign on them, but the room next to ours did not so it's likely this is where much of the smoke smell was coming from. The room was clean, as always. We have really enjoyed staying here in the past, unfortunately I think our backs and noses are too old take it anymore.…

We didn’t have hotel, and stopped here as last resort. The lady at front desk was friendly and we got the last 3 rooms. The rooms are decorated like apartments. During our stay we found out that a lot of their customers are long-time tenants. Our group had some interesting conversations with people but we felt weird staying there. I swear I heard someone came into my room in middle of night but I didn’t see anybody and nothing was gone.

My wife and I had just traveled ten hours on a Friday and had come to a stop in Dubuque, IA. We had not reserved a room anywhere as we didn't know how far we would travel. But, don’t you like it when hotels try to gouge you as a you call for a room for the same night? One hotel desk said, “Well I have limited availability starting at 200 dollars.” Click...we called our next number and they said, "Eighty dollars for a single bed." Perfect! The room was clean and had a home like atmosphere. A room with character. I’m not one to post about a hotel room experience but I couldn’t let this old time pillar of the city of Dubuque pass by. Too many newer hotels are so modern or nondescript. The building’s structure and layout provided a quiet night ideal for sleeping. It was a perfect stay at this old time hotel which we needed. The best part was the person at the front desk who handled our phone call, our initial arrival and she was there when we checked out. Carrol was a pleasure to meet and she even recommended her neighbor’s business for our morning breakfast. I told her at checkout it was a perfect stay. I’ve missed the old time locks and keys since the cards have taken over. You’ll discover other things too. From shower heads piercing your pores, ceiling fan, thicker blinds. I almost took anothe shower to enjoy the old time shower head spray and pressure.…

Horrible customer service skills at the front desk. I've stayed here for two months here for business in Dubuque and after my second month my comforter was changed through room service. I walk into the lobby from work one day, lay down to relax for about an hour and immediately start to get eaten buy bed bugs from this old filthy comforter they had put on my bed that day.. I go to the front desk to notify them and the owner happened to be sitting in the lobby immediately the owner blames me! So the next day after work I walk into the lobby and there's a handwritten note stating I had to be out whether I have money or not to pay for the next month's rent because his establishment gave me a infestation of bed bug bites..! I'm completely disgusted shame on you can field hotel and your owner! Absolutely filthy!…

Another reviewer put it perfectly - if you like clean and economical and are OK with fun and cheesy, this is your place! Awesome location for most places in Dubuque. If you are into fancy or worried because things are older (but still clean) Don't stay here, you will not like it. We had 5 adults and got what we call the honeymoon suite - obviously it is not - but it has 3 double beds in it and lots of room for additional cot we brought from home. The bedroom part is separate from the kitchen sitting area which was perfect for extra dressing room and us early risers did not wake everyone else up. We go because of the casinos and my son goes to Platteville, but when we go all 5 or 6 of us go and for $85 a night really? Such a deal! try staying in a regular hotel and have this much room! The casino shuttle stops right in front, just ask the desk to call and they normally come fast! First night we went to Mystique and shuttle was good. We then came back and hit the Rainbow Lounge, sometimes overly packed, this time just enough to have fun and drinks, lots of drinks lol! Next day we decided to stay in the area and were able to walk to dinner at the Shot Tower. We did get a ride to Jubecks which is a craft beer place we love too! Love that you can walk right over to the Riverfront. Hit Diamond Joes couple of times, could have gone to winery there or many other places. One more item we love, we bring our own bagels and drinks and such and there is a fridge and a table with 4 chairs, love that! Our room also had a toaster and counters in the kitchen area, lots of room! We will always stay here when we come to Dubuque, why pay so much more for so much less, just because the décor is from way back! We dont use a pool anyway, and we don't order room service, so who cares! Beds are comfy, and all is clean, and great service at the desk!…

This is my "go to" hotel when I come to Dubuque to visit family. Not a fancy place, but the staff is friendly, it's a great value, and they have a nice karaoke bar. The atmosphere is best described as "eclectic", like before the big chains took over. Wi fi is available in the lobby. As a bonus, if you are into Dubuque history, you might get a chance to talk with Bob, the owner. It's close to the casino and many Dubuque landmarks!

Nice, clean room. We were very pleased with our stay. We enjoyed the Rainbow Lounge. Went nw to Balltown and ate at Breitbach's. Beautiful scenery! We visited, shopped, and plan on bringing our other family members to experience the activities of the area.

Stayed one night while on a birthday getaway weekend. The staff was super nice and helpful. The rooms were clean and we'll furnished. We went to the karaoke lounge attached to the hotel and had a great time! I would definitely recommend and hope to return again someday.

I was skeptical at first to stay at this hotel. It was like walking through a time machine. The lobby is clean and nice. The room was clean and cozy. Staff was very nice. Only downside is the bathroom. Definitely wins the award for the worlds smallest bathroom. I am glad we stayed there though.
