From the owners' greeting when I arrived, to the no-fuss checkout, staying at the Golden Haug was a true pleasure. We enjoyed the spacious room and bed, the cheerful (and tasty!) communal breakfast, and perhaps most of all, the huge whirlpool tub! Even better, the Haug is within walking distance or a few minutes' drive of some of the area's... more

I'm happy you have fond memories of your stay at The Golden Haug. We do have central air conditioning, but put in the window unit in addition to make sure our guests could have ultimate comfort on our extremely hot Iowa nights.

We loved being able to walk everywhere, since the campus and the downtown are within minutes of the Golden Haug. The rooms are fine and there's a great big porch for hanging out and playing music. Plus the breakfast was fantastic. If you're still hungry, there is a great food co-op right across the street and your residence at the... more

Excellent amenities--we took full advantage of the claw-foot tub. The king-size bed was very comfortable, and Nila offered a portable crib and umbrella stroller to make our baby comfortable. The location is unbeatable and we enjoyed walking to downtown restaurants. FWIW, the Red Avocado and Pioneer Food Coop next door and across the street, respectively, offer excellent options for easy... more

My husband and I stayed in the room "Inn to Africa". We loved the decor - all animal prints, elephants, bird lamps, bamboo, etc. It was really cool. King sized bed with a great suede comforter. We also really liked having the whirlpool in our room. The robes were so soft - I loved that. The shower also has a... more

It is unfortunate we were not notified that there was a lack of hot water for this couple. We had done some maintenance and one of three water heaters had inadvertently been turned to low. It was remedied within minutes of being alerted.

We wanted to let you know that we had a superb time at your Bed and Breakfast this past weekend: April 18/19, 2009. It was more beautiful than the photos, the AFRICA room is where we stayed and it truly felt like we were on vacation and not in another room at a hotel. I can just image how beautiful... more

I can't say enough about the Golden Haug B & B and its proprietors. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The owners are very attentive to your needs and provide first rate service. The breakfasts are delicious, fresh and the company at the table is always pleasant. Next door, in a building that Nila also owns and manages is a... more

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the Golden Haug....both times for Valentine's Day. The host and hostess make you feel really welcome and the rooms are gorgeous. A little pricey but well worth it for something special. more

This was my first experience at a bed-n-breakfast. I was extremely pleased with the hospitality that was shown toward us. I had planned a romantic overnight (early Valentine's gift) and couldn't have been more satisfied with the room. The bed was remarkably comfortable and the room was very clean, In addition, the whirlpool for two was perfect. Honestly, I could... more
