The Benjamins have done an outstanding job with this B&B. Dover is a tiny town, but it is only 15 miles from Topeka and I-70. The owners went out of their way to accommodate us, including providing a bottle of wine because there was no place near to buy some. The property is lovely and the breakfast was excellent. Our room was small (the old stagecoach drivers' room) because as girlfriends visiting our Kansas roots, it was the room with twin beds. But it was cute and nicely decorated. It has its own bath but down the hall a few steps. The only drawback to the Sage Inn is its distance to a good restaurant, but we made ourselves happy on their deck with cheeses, salads and a glass of wine (there is a very good supermarket with a deli about 12 miles away). Dover is on the Native Stone Scenic Byway, a country road through an area of limestone farmhouses and fences. more

This is actually a bed and breakfast, situated just west of Topeka. We have stayed here twice -- a week each time. The inn was the original stagecoach stop where the Oregon Trail and Santa Fe trails met. It is out in the country and full of character. The hosts are friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are bountiful and delicious. The rooms are charming. All have private baths, but a couple you have to go into the hall to get to the bath. Our bathroom was spacious, though the tub (clawfoot) is a bit funky with its circular shower curtain. There is a small refrigerator upstairs for guest use. You do hear early morning trucks sometimes, but the area is otherwise very quiet. We hope to stay here again next year. more
