We have taken to meeting for a family breakfast every month or two at the Wellington Arms. The setting is pretty, access is easy, breakfast is good and the staff and service exemplary. I phoned ahead yesterday as I fancied kippers for breakfast. I was told that they are not on the menu and arrived to find that kippers had... More

This used to be a regular stopping point for both evening meals and Sunday lunches. Selection, portion sizes, service and an overall drop in the quality of food in recent visits mean that it's no longer one to recommend. It's never been cheap but the prices no longer justify. A real lack of charm in the place these days too.... More

Stayed for a couple of nights after booking through Late Rooms. The place really has the WOW factor as you pull up, it being one of the original gatehouses to the Duke of Wellington's estate. The original building has been extended at the rear, not in keeping with the original but thankfully also not visible from the road. Our room... More

We have eaten here many times over the last few years and the food is always of very good quality, the service is great and is a lovely building. For the price of a meal you could easily spend this is a normal pub for lunch,.. once of the best places in Basingstoke to grab some good quality lunch

Long day - not well organised to get to Hampshire suite you were sent outside on the gravel and road. Wedding Ceremony in room, then kicked out back into main hotel (again via road) where hotel guests were there having lunch so wedding guests were in their way. Waited 2 hours to get back into room for sit down meal.... More

I spent 2 nights here whilst in Basingstoke on business. Check in was quick and I was offered a table for dinner immediately. Room was large with a comfortable bed and a complimentary bottle of still water. Decor is tired and quite old fashioned, but is in keeping with the hotel. Food was a bit hit and miss. Breakfast is... After a week of the temperature not rising much above 3 degrees it was a pleasure to be welcomed into a warm establishment and promptly seated at our table with our drinks and menu provided immediately by our charming Tasmanian waitress. We were there for Sunday lunch and were presented with two menus. The standard permanent, comprehensive and interesting one,... More

As a standby hotel, this usually serves my purpose, assuming I get a good rate. However my last stay there had enough niggles to warrant another review. I had to wait at check-in whilst the manageress and the receptionist chatted to what was obviously one of their more entertaining customers. Once they had checked in one of their duller ones,... Stayed at a nice old style hotel with friendly staff and comfortable rooms. No banging at silly o"clock and food good although a bit pricey. Great location on A33 outside basingstoke but not too far.Within easy reach of Reading and the M4 and the M3 . In the country but only just with a petrol station a few miles toward... More

I joined some friends for a Reunion Dinner here and was frankly very disappointed with meal that was served up, I prefer my meal to be served on hot plate rather than a dish or platter. I appreciate that this is some sort of trendy way of doing things but its not for me. Would have accepted it if the... More
