Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had no hot water!! We moved from one room to another a least it was warm but not Hot!!!!! They are dog friendly, however you are near a parking lot where the homeless hang out. We will never stay here again. The price is not worth it. Visitors use caution!

Not really "grande" at all. Although entrance is beautiful and front staff are friendly, the place is in major need of a face-lift. The carpets are like something out of The Shining. Lots of sketchy looking people hanging around. The bed was very comfortable and the room was functional however the phone in the room didn't work and the whole thing was just really outdated. Comparible hotels for cheaper prices in Bangor.

Hi Kailie, I'm happy to report that all rooms phones have been fixed. We are in the process of having all of the rugs replaced so that's exciting. We know there's still a lot of work to be done, and as soon as one thing gets done 2 more projects pop up, slowly but surely we will have all of them taken care of. Thank you for choosing to stay with us, and for letting us know how everything went for you.

This place is soooo dated. And the description said it had been renovated this year- untrue. The internet pictures are more misleading than usual for a hotel property. Also, it was used for homeless people during Covid (which is kind), but at least one family is still here with a screaming kid near us!!!! Poor thing had a hacking cough and kept himself (and us) up all night. They did not honor our request for a quiet room. They put us in the worst location for noise…The wicked stench of chlorine as you come in is the first sign that this property is beyond dated. The exercise room has two pieces of equipment and some free weights, but you can’t work out because it is soooo hot. Oh- no elevator, either. On a positive note, the bed was adequate.

Thank you for letting us know how your time with us went. I'm sorry you didn't find things to be very pleasant. I would like to address a few of your concerns. I'm not sure what the prior property offered as far as stay to the homeless but we don't do that program. We do allow people to book for as long as they'd like as long as they are paying our nightly rates. We do however take noise complaints very seriously as everyone pays for their stay and deserves to be provided with a pleasant one. The day you stayed we were fully sold out and when the hotel is sold out there isn't really a quiet section, We just hope all of our guest are respectful to their neighbors. The pool is located right in the lobby so you will be able to smell it, It's also a sign of a nice clean pool so i'll take that as a compliment. We are always making changes so we appreciate any feedback we can get as it's crucial towards our growth.

At first thought this was a good deal-was trying to get home quickly and was told that even though I booked for three nights, I would not be charged if I stayed less. Ended up staying 1.5 days(counted as two as I agreed to) but was charged for three days. Clerk wasn't going to give me a written receipt but finally did. Woman on drugs outside entrance to hotel kept asking to help me but I think she took the receipt from my coat pocket thinking it might be money. Lastly, unable to phone hotel-always, leave a message. Would never use this hotel again.

It was a nice hotel but one of the things that made it extra special was that they arranged and paid for an Uber to pick us up at the airport (around midnight) when we arrived. At the end of our trip, we stayed at a different airport hotel (Fairfield Inn) and not only did they NOT provide an airport shuttle, they didn't show any interest in helping us get a ride to the airport to catch our 5:30am flight. They gave us a list of taxis and when I tried calling the taxis, they all went to VM. And when I tried reserving an Uber, there was nothing available. If it hadn't been for some friends who were willing to get up very early and take us to the airport, I'm not sure how we would have made it there. Bangor Grande did a great job with customer service.

We arrived at the Bangor Grande to find out it is no so grande. We couldn’t get a room on the first floor because the shriners were having a convention. With a2nd floor room and lots of stairs we made it to the end of the hall. We came out our door and found signs saying don’t enter. Seriously how were we going to get back in. So I went to the desk. Sweet girl not so helpful. Finally called the manager who said we could get back in only to find that when we did get back we could not get in. So I left my 89 year old mom with a homeless guy while I went for help. On my way around the hotel to the desk I ran into some of the Shriners. With a purge of tears I talked them into letting us into the door to our room. So is the Bangor Grande Grand. I just don’t think so.

Hi, Yes we did have the whole first floor booked out to the shriners, If we had an ada room available we definitely would have rented it to you. They had booked all of them as they also required them. They also booked a year out, so it did close down all rooms for anyone trying to book first floor. The doors should have opened when you swipe your room key on the key pad. I do apologize it didn't work for you. It's unfortunate you didn't enjoy your time with us. We pride ourselves on doing whatever we can to provide our guest with a good experience. It had to have been a stressful situation for you and i greatly apologize.

We stayed with them one night and then asked them to hold our luggage for a couple of days while we did a canoe trip in upper Maine. On return we found all the luggage had been rummaged through and property stolen. There are thieves working there. The manager Sandy did nothing and claimed there was no evidence of theft. Police report has been filed. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL

Hi Daniel, storing luggage for our guest is not something we offer. We do however do it regularly to help our guests as they're coming into town and would like to walk around without carrying everything. We do this to be helpful and make things easy for all of our guests. We stored yours for multiple days, 5 to be exact. We actually had several other guests' luggage in the same area as yours. I went over all of the camera footage as I had told you when you called. If there were any signs of theft it would be something that would be taken extremely seriously. Even after reviewing the camera footage, you were still sure it had happened, so it didn't matter what I was saying at that point. We cannot take action if there is no evidence of anything even happening. We have never had any issues with any guest luggage being stored and "rummaged" through. I have yet to see the police, but I look forward to speaking with them as they will also see nothing was gone through. To accuse people, that were only trying to help you, of being thieves is quite the accusation. I thank you for choosing to stay with us and I'm sorry we won't be having you again.

Not such a “Grand Stay” at the Grande Hotel Bangor We only stayed at this establishment for one night. Full disclosure…..When we booked in, I learned I had made the reservation on line for the wrong date, totally my mistake. A lady at the front desk who appeared to be a supervisor stated they could not cancel my reservation. I booked in at the front desk paying $173.34 with taxes compared to my online rate of $118.00, taxes in. Not impressed but live and learn. I was given a generous coupon for the restaurant which is standard (more on the restaurant later). The room #169 needs maintenance (see photos) and really needs to be renovated as furnishings and décor are dated and very worn. However, the bed was very comfortable On my way to the bar, I went to the pool during the hours it is scheduled to be open and it was locked up. Nothing was mention at the front desk. Arrived at the bar during happy hour. Seating at the bar was taken up with vocal locals. As posted at the door, “seat yourself”, I did. There appeared to be one person working the bar and tables. I was sitting at the table for about 10 minutes when the lady went to a nearby table to deliver some menus but never approached me. After several minutes there was a clearing at the bar and I asked for a menu and sat down. I waited another 10 minutes with no one coming to the table, so I left. My wife and I decided to have breakfast at the restaurant as we felt it would be convenient and quick. WRONG! We arrived at the restaurant at 7:50 a.m., there were only a few people there who had already been served. There were 3 staff working the tables. Our orders were basic; my wife ordered scrambled eggs and bacon, I ordered my eggs over easy with sausage and home fries. After waiting 25 minutes during which time my wife observed a lady who came in after us, place and receive her order, before ours arrived. My eggs and home fries were cold and the sausages were luke warm. In addition, my eggs were not sufficiently cooked as some of the egg white was still clear. I did not mention this point to the server. We rejected both meals. Our server took both meals to the kitchen. Within minutes the server returned with my wife’s meal which was simply put in the microwave. Now you can imagine microwaving scrambled eggs that had been sitting out to the point they were cold. Now the eggs were dried out and rubbery, the bacon was over cooked. Within only 5 minutes of sending my meal back I received my order back. I had the same sausages reheated but new eggs, and home fries. The food was awful. When we were given our meals a second time, we were served by an older lady she apologized and threw the cook under the bus stating, “sorry we are training a new cook!” Yes, the cook is responsible for the food being cooked, an issue I did not mention to the server, but he/she is not responsible for getting the hot food to the table before it is cold! So, then we had to wait and wait to get our bill. When we got our bill the server advised she did not charge us for our 2 teas, seriously!, that is suppose to make up for wasting our time and their poor performance. My wife asked the server why it took so long to get our order when a lady came in after us was served promptly. Her response was “we had a communication issue”????? Seriously! What we thought would be a quick and convenient breakfast not the case as we loss 50 minutes of our time and was serve crap to boot.

First of all I would like to thank you for your review of our hotel. We take our reviews very seriously and hope to improve with each one. I am taking into consideration all of the issues you have stated and will definitely be addressing them with the entire staff. I certainly do not want to load this response with excuses to these issues, but sincerely apologize for the inadequate service. I can say that bookings through 3rd parties are difficult for us to help with as we have no access to making any kind of corrections or controlling rates they may have displayed online. As for the restaurant issues I can assure you we are trying everyday to properly train our staff to help run things more efficiently. Ever since Covid hit restaurants in the area have a hard time obtaining and keeping staff, but again, no excuse for the service you received. I sincerely hope you consider giving our hotel another try in the future and we will always strive to make your stay an enjoyable one. Thank you again for your honesty and please accept our apologies.

The staff is very friendly, and the breakfast was delicious. The room was also pretty clean, but I didn't dare inspect too closely. The building is filthy and rundown. The whole place has a creepy, dark, dank, and unsettling vibe. I'm a kind person, and actually hate to leave bad reviews, but I feel like people should know what they are getting before spending their hard-earned dollars here. The indoor pool is what drew me because I have children, and that area of the building was tolerable. People smoke everywhere, and the parking is next to a bunch of dumpsters. I honestly felt bad, and more than a little depressed, for the friendly staff I met who had to come to this work at this place everyday. I would absolutely not recommend.
