The Downeaster Motel was a nice, quiet, little spot to spend a couple of nights, and the price was wonderful. The room was spacious and comfortable, with two double beds, an armchair or two, a desk, and a TV, and the bathroom had lots of room. We made our second trip to this place in the last few years while passing through Calais. It still has it's same charm. Very clean and reasonably priced. The homemade cakes & pastries as part of the continental breakfast are a plus!!! Love the little nature trail down to the ocean. more
This place is the best! The owners live there and take pride in keeping the place spotless and comfortable for their guests. I don't know how anyone could say anything negative about this place.....I would not stay anywhere else!! And the area is beautiful... more
The Downeaster is plain and simple. There is not much to gloat about. The property is for sale, and it seems the whole area is in an economic depression. We stayed there on our way to eastern Canada. It is 7 miles out of the way each way if you are driving from Bangor Maine to the Calais border crossing.... more
I can't say enough good things about the Downeaster Motel! The price of a room is so reasonable, it's amazing. We stayed for 4 nights and this motel was by far one of the most comfortable and cozy places we've ever been to. The owners are wonderful, warm folks. They have a terrific breakfast each morning on their enclosed side... more
