If you want to sample the full flavor of coastal Maine, you need to visit Castine, on Penobscot Bay. If you want to stay in a place completely in tune with this historic town that feels light years away from the 21st century, choose the Pentagoet Inn on Main Street. Even if Victoriana isn't your fave style, this Inn will... more

The Pentagoet is one of those rare gems. It's an Inn and so not a typical B&B. It actually has more amenities than most B&Bs. There's a lovely restaurant on site and a completely fascinating pub too. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful, but does not hover over its guests. The Innkeepers are very knowledgeable about the area and... more

Both Castine and this B&B were recommended by Lonely Planet and we are glad they were. The B&B owner, Jack, is personable, knowledgeable and very helpful and has an amazingly eclectic photo collection in the bar. The historic house has been kept in pristine condition and the breakfasts are excellent. We travelled all the way up the Maine Coast beginning... more

As part of a trip on the coast of Maine to see the Puffins, we stopped at the Pentagoet Inn in Castine, Maine. Located in the center of Castine, it has views of the harbor and is the perfect location to enjoy this historic village in Maine which is also the home of Maine Maritime Academy. The Inn is small... more

This Inn was amazing! The view/feel was like you are in the 1950/60's. So romantic and relaxing. I loved our room (room 7), I loved the bar area where we met friends both nights before dinner and dinner was wonderful with a nice wine selection. I celebrated my 50th birthday here and can highly, highly recommend to all. Walk to... more

Having stayed at the Pentagoet Inn for a week every June over the past several years, and having compared it to other inns in the neighborhood, we can give it top ratings not just for its rooms, facilities, and food, but especially for the quality of its service and the conscientiousness and sophistication of its hands-on management by the owners,... more

I don't like to travel so minimizing discomforts is a top priority. I loved this inn the first time I saw it - like stepping back in time. Quiet, quaint, and refreshingly free of so-called luxuries. I remember getting up early one day and walking a few short blocks to the waterfront and thinking I was in a different world.... more

I would definitely recommend the Pentagoet Inn. Hosts Jack and Julie were very hands-on and attentive w/out being intruding. Highlights include the breakfast, which we enjoyed outside on the deck or inside, and drinks in the "pub," an onsite room lined with books and photos where you can chat and have a glass of wine and a private conversation. Not... more

An elegant and personable inn on the quiet main street of the most gorgeous Maine coastal town of them all. Castine is what people think about and not find when they go to Camden (Camden is New Jersey with yachts). Castine you can hold in your hand, and it has gorgeous scenery, an incredible, blood-soaked history, enough nice restaurants to... more

My husband and I look forward to visiting sweet, lovely Castine in Maine and returning to this wonderful inn as often as we can. We have stayed in a number of different rooms, each tastefully decorated, comfortable, and with all the amenities that make the place so enjoyable. The breakfasts always are plentiful with many delicious choices, topped with an... more
