If I had 10 visits to Sugarloaf Mountain for skiing or golfing, I would stay at the Herbert Grand Hotel 10 out of 10 times rather than the ski lodges on the mountain. The hotel is about a 100 years old, but the owners have done a great job of keeping the 1918 era feel while at the same time... more

What an enjoyable first experience! The Herbert Grand Hotel is the centerpiece of the town -- and so easy to reach by car. Walking into the lobby feels like stepping into another era -- the Roaring Twenties -- beautifully cared-for fumed wood wainscotting, lovely original brass fixtures (modernly wired), a friend atmosphere with soft seating, and friendly and congenial hosts.... more

We booked two queen rooms here last weekend. After reading some of the negative reviews, we weren't sure what to expect, but did not have many options as we were traveling with our dogs. Yes the hotel is right on the main road heading to Sugarloaf, and there is a gas station across the street. Nonetheless, it is very charming,... more

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Herbert Grand Hotel and was more then pleased with our experience. The hotel is in great condition for being close to 100 years old. The lobby is beautiful with all the fumed trimings and old furniture. Our room was cozy and average size, which to my understanding was the way hotels where built... more

Arrived in Kingfield on a very dark night after travelling from Quebec through the most amazing forest road we have ever ventured into.Even came across 2 Moose sitting bang in middle of road and with their jet black fur,can see how easy to have an accident with them. The Herbert Grand was first place we came to that was open,... more

This is our second stay in as many years. A few friends, my wife and I, enjoyed a long weekend in the Carrabassett River Valley, as guests of this charming and spacious hotel. Grand lobby, spacious hallways, nice little sitting/reading places. The hosts are wonderful. Mark, NB, Can. more

The Grand Herbert Hotel in Kingfield, Maine is an undiscovered jewel! It is the rare case when a turn of the century, grand hotel in northern New England hasn't burned to the ground or been "modernized." Walking into the lobby of The Herbert takes you back to an earlier time when things were less hurried. My wife & I have... more

My wife and I stayed at the Herbert Grand Hotel this March 2007 for two nights. Costs are $99 for Queen, $110 for King, $140? or so for deluxe etc., which includes taxes/fees and free donuts/coffee in the morning. There is a nearby B&B in Kingfield where they serve breakfast and give you a Queen for $75 per night. Cost... more

The Herbert Grand is on par with many of the hotels I stayed at in undeveloped Tibet. The night I spent there was the worst lodging experience of my life. Our room had a queen bed. The bed took up about eighty percent of the room. The bed was at an angle so probably twenty percent of what was left... more
