The staff at the Appalachian Trail Lodge helped us with all of our needs as we stayed at nearby Moose Point Cabin. The Lodge itself serves three meals a day. You've gotta love that 8am breakfast bell. Set on a scenic lake, kayak are available and you can see moose and beaver in the water, and there's a beaver dam that you can bring your kayak or canoe up to. This is a Dark Sky Park area and the view of the heavens at night is outstanding. Astronomy lovers will want to go here. Close to hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail. Keep in mind that it's 20, or so, miles into the woods after leaving the paved road. It's slow going, and you'll want to fill up and get anything you need before you hit the unpaved road because it's a long way back. We never went over 20mph. Grading and other forms of road care go on, but it's slow going. Year round activities.…

This place is amazing! Koty and Danya are so organized and so welcoming and so knowledgeable that they represent the very best in what they do. They bend over backwards for their guests and provide the ultimate in a hiker friendly environment. There was nothing that they were not prepared to handle and they did it in a gracious way that made you feel like family. I would highly recommend them to anyone hiking the A.T. or anyone looking for an oasis in the wilderness no matter what the occasion to be in Millinocket.

The entire building is a concussion waiting to happen with the entire top floor being completely innavigable for anyone over 6". Just one look at that nasty overhang on the stairs to the gear shop should have let me know what was in store. Also the wifi dosent work on android phones for whatever reason and when I asked to use a different source was glibly told to go sit in the park and use the public wifi. After leaving to stay elsewhere I returned the following morning to catch the shuttle to Medway. Then after paying with my gear already in the car they came and demanded more money because the other person decided not to go after signing up. Don't waste your time or money here your better off hitching and getting a bed elsewhere.

I am so happy my spouse found this lodge and gear store. Cody was so nice and a wealth of knowledge!! We explained our situation about hiking Mount Katahdin and he was able to assist us with all the details. I highly recommend you call or visit this establishment when your thinking about hiking Mount Katahdin. We called and visited the headquarters for Baxter State Park first but was unable to get the answers we needed but after visiting with Cody all our questions and needs were met! They had all the supplies we needed for a safe trip hiking. Thank you again to Cody and owner for making our trip to Baxter State Park a success.

We had to get off the trail for family matters and decided to flip flop when we got back on. We were able to get a pick up from the bus station, resupply for the 100 mile wilderness, shuttle to Mount Katahdin and two nights for about three hundred dollars. The rooms were clean, the hiker box full, and the showers hot.

The Appalachian Trail Lodge is really clean and very comfortable - with Paul and Jamie as perfect hosts. We stayed in the family suite for a week and loved it. After hiking all day it was great to come back to a quiet, comfy lodge to relax. Any info we needed was provided by Ole Man who knows a lot about the AT and is a true supporter of hikers on the trail. Can't wait to return.

Words of warning: Ole Man (Paul Renaud) can be very abusive to hikers and I experienced it first hand. He accused me just before boarding the shuttle to Baxter State Park of not paying for the shuttle - in front of a group of other south bound hikers who were to be my "trail family" over the next few weeks. It was a shocking, humiliating experience to say the least. I HAD paid; he also had ample time to discuss this with me privately the previous day. (fwiw, I am a retired engineer with ample income to cover these trivial costs). When I could bring myself to talk about it to other hikers the stories flowed. Abusive behavior toward a deaf hiker who could not hear him, threats to call the police on another hiker whose crime was to show up and find out he did not have enough money to stay at the lodge, and abusive behavior toward his employee, ez rock, a gentle helpful guy. This behavior is not only abusive to the hiker experiencing it but an embarrassment for those having to witness it. One hiker told me to not let him ruin my hike; unfortunately it did for several days. It may be time for Paul, Ole Man, to retire from this work he obviously cannot handle appropriately.…

I'm a very particular person, but having traveled a lot stateside and in Europe, I try to temper expectations with location, thus 3 stars. My family and I stayed at AT Lodge for 2 days in the Family Suite 2 (downstairs/basement). The room was SUPER clean and had everything you could possibly want, except Wifi ... we couldn't get Wifi in our rooms (2G so if we did get it briefly it wasn't functional) so we'd go up to the street to get it. No big deal though. Upon check-in there was a lot of confusion and stops and starts.. interruptions with phone calls and disruptions by other people coming in and out. Took about 30 min to check in. I was really surprised when I paid with my credit card on Square Cash app and it was asking me for a tip. I wasn't sure what to do... I mean I'm checking into this place... do they expect a tip for having me/shuttling me? I asked Ol Man what people normally do and he said, "I can't tell you what to do." So, I tipped him cheapest available option like a dumb-ass (because later he asked US to strip all the beds in our rooms!). My recommendation to you is to pay in cash so you're not presented with this quandary in the first place when using a cc. While we had privacy in our family suite, people we were with complained of snoring keeping them up all night and on our last day we heard every boot stomp above our heads so that's really why I recommend Katahdin Inn & Suites because after our hike we spent 3 days there in total comfort (much more comfortable beds, too) with a location that had all the conveniences - all within walking distances - a grocery store, Walgreens, McDonalds and Dunkin donuts. The part of town where AT Lodge is is pretty deserted. We wanted lunch on Sunday at 3 p.m. and there were ZERO locations to grab lunch via walking... AT Cafe door was locked, the pub wasn't serving food... just booze, the other restaurant was closed. We wound up (along with the rest of the town) at a really great convenient store about a mile away that made us sandwiches. Another hiker we met had a game he played, "my game while at AT lodge was crossing the street without looking either way"... that's how isolated this part of town feels. Again, I'm very particular and I want a soft place to land. AT lodge was just fine to start us off, but I definitely didn't want to go back. Finally, our backpacks were selected to be placed on top of the van while all but one other were placed inside the van (again... so glad I paid that tip!!) and sure enough I wound up with two items missing from the exterior pocket of my pack. I'm not sure whose stuff was battering the top of the van as we drove to Baxter Park, but consider that if you want a shuttle from here, too. One last thing... because of injuries we didn't need our food drop-off so I did appreciate that AT Lodge did return our $35 fee and our items. That brought back a little good will, but only 3 stars worth and not my unnecessary tip. Lesson learned.…

This rustic, homey and clean lodge was a perfect way to begin our introduction to Baxter State Park and the Appalachian Trail. The owners were warm and friendly and willingly shared their knowledge and experience of the area. A hearty breakfast with home baked wheat bread was served at their restaurant down the block. Ginny and Steve

We stayed for our Katahdin hike. The staff are friendly and helpful. The prices are VERY good. The accommodations are meh. The refrigerator hardly worked. The beds weren’t comfortable. If you are looking for something simple, this is your place. If you’re used to 3-Star plus, not so much.
