We had an enjoyable stay at the Squire Tarbox. As a recent reviewer noted, when you stay at a place like this, you should not expect Hilton amenities. Our room was small and quaint but comfortable. We had dinner and it was good quality ingredients prepared well (not gourmet, but good eats). Our only complaint, if you could call it... more

Management response from

In our defense we do NOT charge 22% gratuity. We charge 7 % tax and 13% gratuity on the room and dining. The wait staff usually end up with 15% and the housekeeping get the rest through higher salaries than normally paid as we expect high standards in cleaning and keeping the Inn comfortable to our guests.

The Squire Tarbox Inn is located off a quiet country road on Westport Island, near Wiscasset. The Inn overlooks an organic farm and a quiet cove. The grounds are stunning and worth spending time walking the trails through the coops down to the water's edge. The inn keepers provide a tiny screened-in hut and a rowboat to enjoy the cove.... more

Honestly, I don't know what made some of the previous reviewers so grumpy. We found the Squire Tarbox to be charming, accomodating, friendly and comfortable. But, we expect a country B&B to be quirky...that's WHY we pick them. Squire Tarbox is a unique, old property with interesting architecture, and on a working organic farm. We walked all over the farm,... more

I must say I find it hard to believe the previous reviewer. We stayed at Squire Tarbox for 3 nights mid-August with our 2 children, aged 7 and 6. We too arrived late after a long journey and were welcomed warmly. We had several long chats with both Roni and Mario during our stay who were interesting and charming, and... more

While planning our new England vacation online, I discovered the cleverly-crafted and beguiling website of the Squire Tarbox Inn. The quaint 18th century inn and bucolic grounds with goats and chickens in residence sounded idyllic, the food was purported to be exceptional -- organically grown by the family and cooked by noted chef/innkeeper Mario -- and best of all, we... more

If you expect upscale luxury, televisions, and large baths, you'll be disappointed here. But if you look further to experience all of what this historic inn has to offer, you'll wish like us you had stayed longer than two nights! Owners Roni and Mario have created a beautiful, warm and friendly respite just far enough away from the bustle of... more

The Squire Tarbox was the last stay on our trip to Maine and was a perfect oasis of calm before driving into Boston the following day. Our room was small and perhaps the bathroom could do with a bit of tlc, but didn't matter as we don't travel to sit in a hotel room. the location is lovely and we... more

We enjoyed a wonderful summer weekend at the Squire Tarbox Inn. My mom, three sisters and I were greeted upon our arrival by Roni, one of the innkeepers. After showing us to the cookie jar (constantly stocked with gourmet cookies!) she gave us a tour and brief history of the inn and let us explore the many sitting areas, dining... more

.A few weeks ago my husband and I enjoyed a rejuvenating weekend at the Squire Tarbox Inn in Wiscasset, Maine. It is well "off the beaten path" and that is only part of its charm. We loved the ten acre spread with its organic gardens, cool forest, salt marsh and what looked like a screened in bus stop where one... more

This is a copy of the letter I sent to the innkeepers after my stay. Dear Roni and Mario: "I can't stop telling my friends about your beautiful Inn and the many beautiful bedrooms and sitting rooms, its natural setting and organic gardens, your hospitality and friendliness, the fresh organic ingredients making up so many of your delicious meals grown... more
