Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were greeted by Elijah as soon as we arrived and he provided excellent and attentive service throughout our weekend visit. The lovely woman at the front desk recognized me as a Marriott member and was incredibly nice and helpful. I wish I caught her name to recognize her as well. The morning breakfast room (included) was huge - most of the 2nd floor with plenty of food, again the attendant was very customer focused and friendly. We opted out of cleaning our room but asked for towel replacement from the housekeeper when we saw her on our floor - again she was super friendly and attentive - which is rare for a role for someone working so hard with little recognition. All of this shows that there is excellent management at this hotel. Of course it is just down the street from the Marriott headquarters but regardless this was the best service we have had at a Marriott or any hotel in a long time. The location is excellent, close to the Metro and downtown Bethesda with all the great shops and restaurants. Our room was exceptionally large and seemed to have been recently updated. We usually stay at the Hilton Garden Inn on the same street, but had three college age kids with us so we needed more room, so glad we tried this hotel - we will be back!

We have traveled to Bethesda every two weeks for the last 2.5 years. The Residence Inn has become our home away from home for several very good reasons. First, the location is fantastic. Second, the hotel staff is second to none. Shelly, the GM, takes pride in the property but most important she has surrounded herself with quality people. I wish I could remember all their names. l should just say they are all exceptional, because they are, but I will give a high five to Barbara, Maria and Pamela. The property is going through extensive remodeling but the work has not been distracting. The remodeled rooms are very nice, very spacious and comfortable. We can’t wait for the penthouse floor to be converted to an outside patio! If there would be any drawback it would be the breakfast area. It is fine but unexceptional expect for the service staff. There are several really good restaurants nearby. This is a very comfortable property, the location is great, exceptional service and a decent value considering the area. Valets are a very important front of house service at a quality hotel and the Residence Inn has the best. Robert is the manager and like Shelly he has the absolute best staff Jemy and Perry are the two we see the most and you will definitely be greeted with a smile. They can assist you with your luggage and are very prompt in retrieving your car. Bottom line I think the suites at the Residence Inn are the best value in town and the staff is outstanding. Give it a try — tell them Mike & Mary sent you. You won’t get a discount but you should get a smile!! Safe travels

I recently spent three weeks at Embassy Suites by Hilton in Bethesda and had an outstanding experience. The ladies at the breakfast buffet, Mary, Marie, Bianca, Lucia, Azeb, and others, deserve a special shout-out for making us feel at home. Mary, in particular, was super amazing and helpful, even being a French speaker, which was a delightful bonus. The housekeeping team also deserves recognition for doing a great job keeping the rooms clean. We truly loved our stay – highly recommend!

I really liked this hotel. It was clean, neat and breakfast was available. The room was a suite set up so I had room to move around and position my items the way I would in my apartment. It is near EVERYTHING, the metro, the trader joes even ruth christ! I really liked it. However, the only issue I had with my room was that my personal blanket came up missing due to the cleaning staff accidently getting it mixed up with the hotel linen. I talked to the staff about my blanket they were responsive however, I had to go back downstairs to follow up with the staff on shift at the time and they found my blanket within less than 5 minutes. My issue was not that it was eve taken however, it was the response time from my initial inquire about the blanket up until the follow up, (it had been about 2 hours before I received a response from me pursuing it). All parties involved were professional and I was able to get my blanket back. John was the front staff that found my blanket in less than 5 minutes. My favorite part besides the room was the bathroom, it was big enough for me, skin care products and routine, the mirror I believed creates a natural light effect. The room adjusted fairly quickly whenever I changed the temperature setting.

This was the first time we stayed at this hotel in Bethesda. We were traveling with a dog, so we were always hesitant about new hotels. From the calls ahead of our arrival, through our stay, the staff was wonderful. They calmed any concerns and made our stay extremely easy. The breakfast was great, and the staff there was very attentive. A shout out to Pamela at the front desk who was great at check-in and throughout the weekend, when questions came up. The whole hotel was very accommodating. Our room was very clean and updated. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you RI-Bethesda!

Response from Shelly Saunders, General Manager at Residence Inn by Marriott Bethesda Downtown
Responded 30 Oct 2023
Hello, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay with us. Beds and pillows do have a tendency to be an individual's choice. While we usually get great comments about their comfort, we do understand that each of our guests have their preferences. We are disappointed that you did not find your stay with us comfortable, and you have chosen not to stay with us in the future. On a side note, we are going to be renovating all of our guest suites over the next couple of months. If your travels do bring you back to the Bethesda area, we hope you might change your mind and considered our hotel once again. Safe Travels, Shelly

The hotel is in a nice, safe area with many restaurants about a block away. Parking is a bit expensive, and the breakfast is the usual stuff. Our room was very nice and extremely quiet. While, due to the location, the bedroom was very small, it was fine. The only complaints are a very hard bed and paper thin towels. Even with this, we certainly would stay there again.

Excellent stay - nice breakfast; spacious, clean room and well-stocked kitchenette. Not perfect - elevator issue (still), no nightlight so it's pitch black if you have to get up in middle of night, and valet area was full of parked cars when we arrived (I was dropping my family off and then headed to the nearby public parking garage).
