The Essex River House Motel was the only lodging I could find near Gloucester that would allow pets and did not have a two night min. stay during the summer. I was working a craft fair in Gloucester (10 minutes away) and only needed to stay 1 night. It was clean and reasonable ($97 during the summer) and right on the Essex River with moorings. It is walking distance to many restaurants. The walls seemed thin, a large group of girls were staying there -- possibly a lacrosse or soccer team?, and some came in at 12:30AM and were loud. There is no one at the front desk at night, so I stuck my head out and told them I had to work in the morning and they quieted down. I felt very safe being a female alone there.
