The whole setup at this place is strange. We were coming into town for one night only, and knew that most places would not release rooms for less than 3 days until the night before. So we called on Fri afternoon before our Sat stay, and reserved a room at Burch House with 2 double beds. The gentleman took my name & phone number and said to call if we were to arrive later than noon. I was tod they were "very old-fashioned" and could not charge credit cards over the phone to hold a room. I was very clear with the man that we were 4 adults that would share the 2-double bed room "apartment", and that we were bringing 4 bikes.

Having secured accommodations, we took the ferry from Boston and arrived at 10:30. The place is dark, dingy, and there is no office. We walked through what looked like someone's cluttered living room into a dusty kitchen and inquired about checking in. They had not written my reservation down, and several men began to argue... more
