Location was excellect. Overlooking the Portage, right down town and within walking distance to MTU. Service was also excellent. Everyone went out of their way to make you feel welcome. In Houghton for business recently, I spent two days in the Sunset Suite, Room 526, with a regular hotel room for a sitting room and a corner room with a king size bed and hot tub, and a balcony looking west over the Portage Channel. My husband's family is from Houghton and recommended this hotel. It was by no means horrible, but terribly it was far from luxury, the way it had been advertised. Our room 516, had probably not been renovated since the hotel was built in the 80's. Everything was scuffed up and seemed old, worn, and tired. The hair dryer didn't work.... more
