I've stayed at Top Hill multiple times - alone, with friends, and with my 78 year old father. The last time I was there was 2005, not 2006, but this website doesn't give 2005 as an option.
I highly recommend Top Hill. It is at a very good location for the overnight stop between Lukla and Namche Bazaar. I used to stay in Phakding when I went to the Everest region. Then I stayed in Top Hill one time and never had to stay in Phakding again. The food, hygiene, toilet, rooms - all are very comfortable and clean. There is a beautiful view, and the construction is very sound, giving a secure feeling. They are nice people, the owners, and it is a very nice place. You can book ahead, but I have not done so. I have found a room available every time except once - when the whole lodge was booked up by monks for a funeral service that was going on next door to the lodge.
