Most other reviews are reasonably fair. However, we found the staff to be attentive (especially Laurence) and the meals (half board) were basic and little choice but equally were good, and served well. With a room overlooking the canyon, this could be the best view in Europe. The hotel is basic - we came here 20 years ago and not a lot has changed since then. This hotel is located in a very beautiful setting. But the warm and friendly staff is what makes the stay memorable; from the tme we checked in--through a very good dinner and drinks, breakfast, and checkout. It does not appear that many American's stop at this hotel, and they were eager to make our stay a very positive experience.

Stunning location and very good terrace overlooking the gorge but that's about it. We stayed here for 3 nights which was more than enough. Unfriendly welcome and very cold room and cold bed (not aired) although they did switch the heating on when we asked (at 850m it got very chilly in the evenings).
