This hotel isn't perfect--I tend to hate single rooms and got one here. But the service is absolutely impeccable, in a proactive kind of way. Most remarkable was that when the chambermaid found two beers in water in the ice bucket, she replaced the water with fresh ice. I've never seen service that detailed. We love this type of hotel. Even for the mid-west, St. Paul is a wonderfully friendly city, and this hotel embodies that spirit. This is THE place to stay in St.Paul. It is an historic hotel, completely redone to become one of the boutique and great smaller hotels in the US. Doormen, elegance, fabulous rooms, be sure to book a park view room, close to everything downtown, yet quiet.....and has the St.Paul Grille, a lovely restaurant. Stayed here for a wedding so got the benefit of a nicely discounted rate. Historic hotel is nearly 100 years old and has lots of charm. Lobby is gorgeous and rooms, although smallish, are charming, too. Comfortable bed and chair with ottoman. Oddly the lamps could not be reached from the bed to either turn on or off.
