I was originally invited to Eden by a very long-time friend, in 2004. I agreed to go, skeptical of the name......too precious, though I didn't utter this to her. Well, the joke(of the best kind) was well and truly on me. I've been one of the "regulars" for years now, always grateful for the privilege of returning. Year after year coming back to this oasis, i'm grateful for it's many treasures and pleasures. Eden offers as much balm and stimulation as one may want, even in the same day. Pleasures of the eye, the flora lush in color, the rooms of each type inviting one's vision to rest, and then the brilliance of the water, irresistible in it's rolling blue invitation to enter. Pleasures of the touch, yes, one really can walk right in, and never feel the skin prick up, contract at the chill inevitably anticipated, yet never present. Acclaimed by another "regular" amongst our cohort, to be "liquid velvet", to miss a day in the water seems a sin. The air, always mild, with light movement, surely is atmosphere to make Heaven jealous. "El Pincho" the newest iteration of the restaurant on site, is the best yet, with consistently delicious offerings for the palate, from morning until bedtime, fully enhanced by an excellent bar, and fully attentive and courteous staff. The ear is enchanted by the varied sounds of the vast ocean arriving at the sandy shore, usually gentle, and occasionally dynamically deep and full of drama. Reading on the beach, reclining blissfully in the chair beneath the large umbrella, in the afternoon, serenaded by the sea, and caressed by sun and breezes, surely is a fine form of the sublime. The ambiance is always warm, and entirely genuine, now with new caretakers of this Paradise continuing to honor the legacy that has been created at this little cove on Mexico's southwestern coast, far, far, from the madding crowds and actions of the "civilized" world. Thank you, Jessica and Josh, for taking up the cause of cultivating this very special place on the planet. Here is true peace and contentment. Here, in fact, IS, Eden.

Best relaxing place ever. Beach Front with whale jumping. Water warm and clear. Simple and beautiful. Really magical place. Lots of places to eat, great massage. Surfing. Tough to get too but worth it. Don’t over pack :) good luck to new owners and great staff

We are so happy to be back at Hacienda Eden for our 12th year! The new owners, Josh and Jess, are doing a wonderful job carrying on with managing the place. Sure, we miss Jim and Eva but wish them well in their new adventures. Grateful to them both for finding Josh and Jess. Happy to see so many of the staff here too! We’ve had three meals so far at El Pincho, the new restaurant on the premises. Everything has been fresh, delicious, and the service is excellent.

There is a reason this boutique hotel is booked well, well in advance. Worth every penny. The views are exquisite, the hammocks are well placed. Infinity pool is lovely. Rooms are Mexican themed and spacious.

Hacienda Eden is in a town called Troncones. I would have never heard of this town had it not been for a friend having a wedding . After searching through the hotel reviews and pictures we chose Hacienda Eden. The rooms are adorable. The casitas were booked and we took and upstairs room #1. So adorable. Your balcony has a hammock and you have the ocean waves crashing in all night long. The owners Jim and Eva are lovely. Very friendly staff. The restaurant attached Jardin de Eden is excellent and really you couldn't ask for more for a secret little romantic getaway. There are no tv's in the rooms...and it is very relaxing. I would definitely stay here again. This town is not touristy. It is not a party town...but t is great for romance, relaxation, and surfing.

Our second visit to Eden was just as good as the first, and we've scheduled another week next year. If you're looking for action, go elsewhere! If you're looking to completely unwind, you've found Eden. The biggest decisions every day are where to eat and whether to walk, bike, or taxi there , whether you want sun or shade, and whether you want to swim in the ocean or the pool. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the rooms are comfy and quiet (only 14 rooms on two stories) and the staff are all delightful and eager to accommodate you, whether or not they speak English or you speak English. Nothing resort-ish here: most of the rooms have ceiling fans, not AC, and the shower is often a warm trickle, but it gets the salt and sand off. But the balconies are lovely with hammocks and a patio table and chairs, and the sunsets are breathtaking. And don't even bother bringing a book: every room is filled with English-language novels: escapist literature at its best. The restaurant has changed management since the last time we were here, and Dann has a Masters in Restaurant Management, overseeing the menu and staff with good-nature and professionalism. (She even sent me home with a recipe I requested.) The food is reasonably priced, not jacked up a lot to soak the tourists, and I would describe it as gussied-up local fare: shrimp tacos, fresh fish from the pescadores down the road, chicken tinga, ceviche, and the like. Friday night is a barbecue, with a choice of fish, ribs, or steak and a couple of sides plus dessert for approximately $15. Aside from an excellent massage at the hands of Emma, one of the highlights of this year's visit was a huge nest of baby turtles hatching just down the beach. We cheered them on as they made their way slowly into the ocean. Jim and Eva, the owners, were true pioneers on Manzanillo Bay, hacking out the jungle 20 years ago to create Eden. They have won the hearts of the local community over the years, especially last year as they kept all their staff on the payroll, despite almost no business during the height of the pandemic. Incidentally, while we were there the Covid testing guidelines to re-enter the states changed to 24 hours prior to your flight, and of course, we were concerned. No problem at all. The testing team came to the hotel, did the swab, and we had the results in less than two hours. Not cheap, but that has nothing to do with Hacienda Eden. I can't wait to be there again with another book and another beer and another sunset.

Hotel side of things is a 5 star. Great hospitality, wonderful owners and staff. Groundskeeping is done wonderfully by a hard working guy. Housekeeping is a few ladies who also do a fantastic job. Now to the bad, the reason why the review had to be updated. The restaurant- it is bad I don't mean kinda bad, I mean it is very bad. The service is the slowest I've ever experienced. Entrees aren't completed and brought out at the same time, you finish your meal almost before the other person gets served theirs. The food is pretty bad as well, basically beans is with everything Eggs and beans, chicken and beans, steak and beans etc. Yes I know beans are a staple but wow how.about you mix things up a bit with a more varied menu so it isnt basically the same dish every meal. If you want more than 1 or 2 drinks good luck, I tried and tried but they seem resistant to taking my money for more stuff. The wait staff is too busy in a slow virtually empty restaurant standing around chatting to come over and take more drink orders. I want to pay you more money....can you please work some , and take my money? Again I love the hotel, amazing in everyway (except food) Come here to stay for vacation, you will love it. Just know that you will want to travel elsewhere for food as it seems almost everyone staying here is doing and why the restaurant is a ghost town compared to how it was a few years ago.

From the East Coast it’s a bit of a ride but once you get there it is pure heaven. Jim and Eva do a great job. You see the same people because everyone comes back again and again. Make sure you bring good books and the ability to just see beauty all around you. A bike ride, a walk, a swim, margaritas and simple good food. It truly is a magical place I am so happy we found it.

I kid you not. Maybe 3/4 of the guests we met while staying 5 nights have been coming here for 20 or more years. If it had not been for Covid, and some tourists still nervous about traveling, I doubt we would have gotten in. This hotel enjoys the best beach location. Gentle waves in the bay, nice infinity pool, and beautiful vies of the sea from almost any vantage point. Boogie boards are free. Bicycle rental is 70 pesos and hour. On-site restaurant, operated independently, pesos only, be prepared. They don’t begin service until 8a, so if you are an early riser and look forward to that first cup of coffee early, you will need to wait. Small property with most rooms facing the ocean. We were in room #5, right on the beach. Huge patio, table with 4 chairs, 2 extra sling chairs and a hammock. We left our room and stepped onto the sand. Waves are heard al day and all night. They have an honor system lending library for books. You can refill your water bottle with purified water anytime you like. A full size refrigerator for guest use, great for storing cold beverages. Rooms are spacious, very clean, in-room safe, ok wifi, no AC, but we found that to be a benefit. We much prefer the open air, and use of the ceiling fan. Lovely place on a lovely stretch of beach. If you have a car, you will be able to get around easily. We did not. We walked about 20 minutes to one section of town to a small tienda for sodas, but wouldn’t want to do that everyday. Most of the restaurants are closer to town, a 2 mile walk or a 100 peso cab ride. Not ideal. It would have been nice to have a few other choices for restaurants within walking distance. The Inn at Manzanillo Bay didn’t appeal to us, restuarant had no view. The Amor Tropical was closed while we were there. As a US citizen, you can get a Covid test to return home from a doctor right in town. The hotel staff can arrange that for you. It is $2000 pesos, quite pricey, you need an appointment, but the doctor will provide all the necessary documentation within 1 hour. Airport location is much cheaper, but we didn’t want to risk doing that on the last day.

My husband and I just spent a week in total relaxation at Hacienda Eden. Everything was perfect, very friendly (yet unobtrusive) service, gorgeous views, very comfortable and stylish rooms. The beach was clean and uncrowded, the water great for swimming and boogie boarding. The restaurant food was fresh, healthy and reasonably priced. In short, I could have stayed all winter. We felt very safe, with COVID sanitary practices and distancing respected at all times. Eva is a delightful host. There are many returning guests that come annually to take advantage of the hospitality and the spectacular sunsets. We’ll be back for sure!
