We spent the last week of August, 2009 at The Edelweiss at Big Mountain near Whitefish Montana. What a fun place! Most people seek the area out during winter for the great ski slopes. In August, we found it uncrowded with so much to do. We took a tram up to the summit and hiked down a pleasant 6 mile trail stopping only for lunch in a field of flowers overlooking the majestic Glacier National Park. We went zip lining, we rode sleds (yes in summer!) and we "Walked in the Trees", which was a fun experience 70 feet above the ground in a beautiful forest canopy.
We drove 35 miles to Glacier National Park which was heavenly. Endless hiking trails, quiet solitude (especially if you arrive early), and beautiful lakes await you. We went a second day to fly fishing on the North fork of the Flathead river. My husband had a productive day catching and releasing some trophy rainbow and cutbow trouts.
Can't wait to return to a winter of skiing one day.
