We only paid 59.00 so we weren't expecting much. The hotel is very clean and has great views of the lake. The beds were not great and bring your own pillow. The hot water was hot and scalding intermittently. Bathroom fixtures very dated. What do you want for 59.00 on Lake Tahoe? It was a clean place to stay with... more

I had one of the most enchanting two days of my life at the Cal Neva. Unlike some reviewers, history and charm is more important to me than internet connection and electrical outlets. The views were extraordinary. The staff was friendly, and not in the slick, faux friendly way; EVERYONE was extremely kind and helpful. The dinner was absolutely delicious,... more

First the plusses: The view from our room (7th floor) is incomparable. Cleaning lady is friendly and polite Interesting history Interesting that the state border runs through the hotel. Window opens Now the minuses: No internet (which was why we stayed here instead of the Hyatt where we would have a daily fee). Few electrical outlets. No Thermostat (details below)... more

Beautiful location of this north shore property that has lots of character & charm. If these walls could talk! Saturday night special in the restaurant was a great prime rib for only $16.99 with a view of the lake! As a fresh-air person, liked that the bedroom windows open wide! Take the "tunnel tour" on Friday or Saturday nights to... more

After reading comments I had to post. I stayed in this hotel 4 times in 6 years and I was married in their wedding room overlooking Tahoe. Couple facts: 1) This is an old hotel with lots of charactor. 2) This is a clean hotel 3) Never experienced rude staff 4) Stayed in the Marilyn sweet - style has not... more

The hotel uses FALSE advertising and marketing gimmicks on its website. They use pictures of the few decent rooms they have for the terrible rooms. Management is unresponsive (or not even on duty on a Saturday night!) to any of your concerns or requests. Attendants at the check-in counter are equally unresponsive, rude and indifferent to any of your concerns... more

I am sorry to hear you had an issue and we did speak on the telephone to resolve your issues. You were not willing to accept the upgrade. As our website states only suites can be booked directly with the hotel and not on the internet. The description states just that. we are an older property, but are fortunate to...

Not as bad as some reviews say. The place is old...but you can tell it has a history. The hotel restaurant was suprisingly good. The casino was just fine and the pool was ok as well. Overall I would go back, definitely better than the Biltmore. There is access to the lake from the property, but you have to ask... more

This is not a 4 star hotel but the views of the lake and mountains more than make up for it. The decor is dated but the numerous windows make you forget about it. It also has a interesting history of Sinatra and the Rat pack owning the place. The spa is a really nice treat and not terribly expensive.... more

I booked a room at the Cal-Nev for a friend's wedding at the Hyatt in Incline Village, NV. I wanted to save a little money becuase the rooms at the Hyatt are $300+. For $200 (I booked with gtahotels.com), the room I received was REALLY sub-par. I will mention that the bathroom was at least clean and was fairly large.... more

If you are looking for a modest size and priced hotel with great views of the lake, easy access to the road to Reno, and really nice staff this is your place. ( I think almost all the rooms have lake views but not sure-- mine did). I am not a gambler, so the small casino was not a draw... more
