We have been going to Margate every 4th of July since I was a child. The hotel is very clean, staff is wonderful, and the location is the best around. The private beach at the Margate is well maintained and perfect for a relaxing time with or without your kids. Every morning the beach sand is cleaning and raked. Brand... more

While I will say the hotel property is fairly nice and well situated on the lake and amongst nice scenery, the rooms were dirty and we left feeling like we paid too much to stay in this hotel. There is no "resort" feel -- the facilities are dated and in need of major repairs. Be forewarned that there are several... more

The Margate has been in operation since 1952. A lot has taken place over the years. Part of its charm and allure to the thousands of guests who love the property is its location directly on the lake. We offer something for everyone and pricing to accommodate varied budgets. We have a 3 story lakefront building located directly on the...

I recently stayed at the Margate, my second time in 2 years. Its an average hotel which I found overpriced for the quality, and the staff unfriendly. The grounds are well kept, the beach area is very nice, however the rooms appear to be older and require attention such as paint and newer beds. There was a lack of dining... more

We are sorry if you were not satisfied with your stay. We do “refresh” the guestrooms regularly, as well as replacing mattresses on a scheduled basis. Our Gazebo Beach Bar is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day and beyond with a full lunch and dinner menu, weather permitting. We also provide a hot breakfast buffet in the main dining...

We were at the Margate for a family wedding. I loved the location of the resort and I thought the rates were quite reasonable (keep in mind we were there early June). The rooms were very average, clean but nothing spectacular. It was very quiet, with a very pretty beach, a cute bar right on the water, and a very... more

We live locally and were looking to get married on valentines day. We looked into the Margate and Laurie and Lisa helped us out by showing us around the rooms. We chose the Mariah room and then they helped us find a DJ and set up the caterers for us. They were willing to work with us on anything we... more

A big “Thank You!” We are always excited that The Margate is able to provide one of the most exceptional locations on Lake Winnipesaukee to celebrate such a joyous occasion. Our great staff take special pride in the property and love to go that extra mile to make sure the customer receives the individual treatment they are so deserving of....

Our family decided to go to the Margate as recommended by my parents. They had visited the Margate years ago and had stayed each time they went to New Hampshire. We took their recommendation and were so glad we did! The service was fantastic, very accommodating and friendly. It was minutes away from so many things that we wanted to... more

Just returned from a one night stay at the Margate. We booked the New Years Eve package and were not disappointed. The hired band was great as were the accomodations. Had a little trouble at the bar - very slow service and drinks were not made as requested, but it was a busy night. All of the staff members were... more

We thank you for joining us for our New Year’s Eve Celebration and are happy that you enjoyed your time with us. We apologize for any inconveniences you experienced at the bar and appreciate your understanding. Our best bartender had taken ill and we had to call in a replacement at the last minute. Please be assured that we will...

We were staying at the resort for a wedding at 3:30 and requested an early check-in so we could shower and dress. The Margate management refused to let us in prior to 4 pm even though I called and asked 5 days in advanced. They offered us to shower and dress in the indoor pool area! No Thanks! Then the... more

Whenever possible we make every effort to accommodate our guests who would like to check in early. The problem we encounter during peak season is guests check out at 11am and sometimes even stay in the room later. We customarily have 141 guest rooms to clean. The housekeepers and inspectors work diligently to complete work by the 4pm check-in time....

Whle I was growing up in the area, *The Margate* was the epitome of grand places to stay. Perhaps that was true some 40 years ago. I found it to be nothing special both times I booked and stayed there. The first time I stayed there with my young son. The room was nothing special. The pool was just okay.... more

Yes, we're proud to say The Margate has been family owned and operated since 1952. A comment like "it is nothing special" is one person's opinion, but we can say that many of our past and present guests would not agree. Maintaining such a large property is a continuous "work-in-progress". Something is addressed each year, from total room renovations, to...
