Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

During my recent stay at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Edison-South Plainfield on February 17th, I encountered a situation that significantly compromised my comfort and trust in the Marriott brand, known for its cleanliness and customer service standards. Finding a bug in my bed the following morning was not just a major inconvenience; it was a distressing experience that highlighted a serious lapse in hygiene standards, which I had never expected from a Marriott establishment. Despite promptly reporting the issue and the staff's quick action to change my room, the emotional distress and the inconvenience of relocating, which consequently made me late for an appointment, seemed to be lightly regarded by the management. The offer of a mere $20 credit towards my stay was, to say the least, disappointing and felt dismissive of the gravity of the situation. Such a response does not align with the level of guest satisfaction and service excellence I have come to associate with Marriott. I had hoped for a resolution that would genuinely acknowledge and compensate for the discomfort caused, such as comping the affected night's stay. This would have demonstrated a true commitment to guest satisfaction and potentially restored my faith in Marriott as my choice for future lodging. The manner in which this incident was handled raises concerns not only for my own experience but for future guests as well. I urge the management to revisit their approach to such matters and to adhere more closely to the high standards Marriott is known for. The importance of immediate and appropriate action to address and prevent such incidents cannot be overstated. I share this review in the hope that it will prompt a reconsideration of my case and lead to measures that ensure a cleaner, more guest-focused experience moving forward. Marriott has always been a preferred choice for many because of its reputation, and it's crucial that such standards are upheld consistently across all properties. Sincerely, [A Guest Who Expected More]

My wife and I were in town to visit relatives for Thanksgiving and stayed the night of Thanksgiving. The location of the hotel is excellent, close to the exit for I 278. The front desk staff where very welcoming. Our room was clean and inviting, with a mini refrigerator and microwave. Loved the layout with the location of the whirlpool tub. When in the area again and have to stay overnight or longer the Fairfield Inn & Suites will be our first choice for accommodations.

Sleepless night in the first room due to loud and constant road noise. The room needed updating and had a bad odor. I complained and they moved me to a room on the back side of the building, which is what I initially requested and didn’t get. The second room was quiet, comfortable and smelled fresh. The front desk staff was apologetic and professional.

I’ll note we booked through Capital One travel which was clearly a mistake on my part but is no excuse for the actions of the hotel/GM. We arrived to check in and all was normal in the interaction. Got the key and got to room to discover it wasn’t what I booked (two doubles instead of a King/sofa bed suite). I went back to the desk and they said “oh, yea, it’s not available so the GM switched. You can call Expedia for a refund.” Note, I wasn’t told this when I originally checked in, only after realizing it wasn’t right. I also didn’t book with Expedia! I booked with Capital One. Fine. We go back to the original room and find that the lock doesn’t work at all so they send us to another two full (not even queen, tiny double beds) room. I proceed to call Capital One as instructed and they offer me a King room. We’re traveling with a child and that doesn’t work so I say no just give me the difference in the room I booked. Capital One gives me a travel credit and I proceed to get my child ready to go to sleep. I then get a call from the GM who was contacted by Capital One saying they’re demanding a full refund for me. That’s not my problem but sketchy on their part. But here’s the part that gets me: the GM then offers to move us to our original room type. Somehow in 2 hours it magically became available? Why wasn’t I offered it on checkin? I declined as my child was already in bed but it left a horrible taste in my mouth about how the hotel was managed.

Fraudulent service of this hotel listing has charged us full booking fee and we drove >3 hrs to fairfield inn in edison NJ only to find out that they illegally cancelled our booking! Placed us in great jeopardy with a hungry crying child and physical pain/inability to drive further. I condemn their fradulent business practices and being a mariott rewards member demand appropriate action against this hotel administration and manager, who was absolutely showing lack of empathy and professionalism

very clean was pleasantly surprised .. room was pretty quiet although the modernized heating system/ convector was a little loud at times and hard to control temperature in the room .We didn’t bother to seek help but I’m sure they would have sent someone to help Nice staff .. Especially breakfast team Breakfast was decent waffles .. eggs .. sausage . Bacon .. cereals Small area though not enough space to distance while eating fr Covid We arrived after 10 pm to check in and the side door of the hotel was unlocked ..was supposed to be locked for security purposes We brought it to the attention of the young man who checked us in .. he was somewhat apathetic .and didn’t comment on it .. They charged 270.0 on my card upon check in my total was 229.0 still waiting to see why the “ overage “ was held in my card Other than this great location not far from Food and eateries but on a quiet side of town

We had a nice visit at this hotel. Staff were friendly and service oriented. The gentleman who I checked us in was very efficient and provided us with valuable information on where to go for supper. He was very helpful. The rooms were clean and very functional. Bed was comfortable and no noise. The hotel is a few km from the I-95, but easy to find if you have a GPS. It was easy to get back on the turnpike. Breakfast was good, with lots of variety. Nice, affordable hotel

I came from out of town with my 3yr old to celebrate my nieces birthday and after an extensive search I decided to go with Fairfield Inn & Suites because of the reviews, the free hot breakfast & the pool. Before making the reservation I made sure to ask if the pool was open (I was only interested in hotels with an indoor pool) but was told yes the pool is open. I made the reservation a week prior to my stay. I again called a few days prior to my arrival to ask again about the pool.. Again was told Yes the pool is open. On the day of my arrival upon checking in, I asked the front desk about the pool and was now told no the pool is closed! That was VERY disappointing since I was told twice it was open and my son was looking forward to it. During my stay (just 1 night) my toilet wouldn't stop running so the front desk guy (very nice btw) said he would come up to check. While waiting my brother in law decided he would see if he could fix it. He took the back of the lid off and there was a syringe in the tank! YES A SYRINGE! I was so disgusted! The clerk did end up removing it and fixed the toilet also but still.. Those 2 situations (pool & syringe) really pushed me away from this place! The room itself was ok. Little outdated but not bad. Really wish my stay was a bit better than it was!

Standard Fairfield Inn. Everything is as you expect in terms of the room size, cleanliness breakfast options and check in process. The gym is somehow smaller than other ones I've been too though and the pool looks a little murky and is also small.
